BY WILLIAM BRANIGIN
Barack Obama took the oath of office today as the 44th president of the United States and pledged to "begin again the work of remaking America."
Addressing a huge throng estimated at more than 2 million people on the capital's Mall and millions of others watching on television, Obama recognized the multiple crises now afflicting the nation at a time of war abroad and economic turmoil at home. But he sought to rally Americans to a "new era of responsibility" and the promise of a brighter future.
He cited a profound "sapping of confidence across our land -- a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights." The challenges are real, serious and many, and "they will not be met easily or in a short span of time," he said.
"But know this, America -- they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."
Obama continued: "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

Somehow, the stock market isn’t getting on with the program today... Don’t they know Obama is all about “hope?”
I hope so. He's aged noticeably since he started getting briefings, hasn't he?
You're correct. I would have been much more entertained if it had been Obama's fault, but being a conservative rather than a whacked-out liberal, I am duty-bound to admit the truth even when I would rather not.
As I indicated to missionry, Obama let Roberts know that he screwed up the recitation by hesitating long enough for Roberts to correct himself and get it right.
Whatever differences one might have with Obama’s philosophy its simple mule stubborn nonsense not to acknowledge that a guy—a Supreme Court Justice, no less—who presents himself as a conservative and Constitutionalist screwed up reciting a simple 35 word presentation emanating from the document on which he claims to be an expert.
God Almighty, may you watch over Obama and protect him. May you, our Lord, also show him the light. And may you, Our Lord, continue to Bless America. In Your Glory we pray, Amen.
Exactly. To quote Barack himself, "just words". But in that speech he sarcastically reiterated the importance of them. The deeds of most of his voting record, I oppose 100%.
Words AND deeds BUMP!
“we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord”
=
“Don’t Worry, Be Happy” & “Blindly Follow the UN over America Should Stand Up For What’s In Its Best Interested (After All We’re Footing the Bill No Matter What Why Should We Blindly Do Someone Else’s Bidding?)”
Following is the text of the address by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to the Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa:
“Unity of purpose is also the foundation of Africas partnership with the United Nations, as we take on the broad range of challenges we share.”

Roberts did mess up the second line but that was only after Obama stepped on Roberts’ first line. They flustered each other.
You mean when does it get more pronounced. (It's been going on for many decades).
I am not going to whine and I refuse to be bitter. I intend to stand by my conservative values, and support candidates and causes that reflect those values. I will work to return this country to the values I believe will make this nation great. To do any less does a grave disservice to our children, and generations yet unborn. I may very well fail, but I refuse to give in, because when I arrive at the end of my time on earth, I will look at myself and know I was true to my values and beliefs.
(LOL) You weren’t listening to the same Oath that I was. Obama was studdering and stammering around and left out parts of the Oath. Obama was very nervous..... The crowd response was lackluster..... What else did I not embrace what is right??
And the market is tanking.........
Obama's fault.
Now we must fight big brother and his fascist running dogs.
For the next four years this BOnehead's rhetoric will distract Americans' attention while he and his cohorts pick our pockets and drop our defenses. He's no better than a con artist.
I was expecting a far more negative speech. It was much better than I thought it would be. Some Reaganesque comments interspersed with some socialistic comments. Interesting that even many on the left in addition to many on the right, don't seem particularly happy with it. Let's pray Obama's presidency is not as socialistic as most of us fear.
It would have helped if his demeanor and delivery were not so somber. They did not match the content of the speech. For the one inaugurated this should be a joyous occasion, and Obama should have outwardly reflected it.
I’m beginning to suspect President Obama is more pragmatic then we’ve been giving him credit for.
His reelection campaign began at 12 noon today.
