From the red acarpet of Hollywood to the streets of downtown DC, the words "post-racial Anmerica" are being uttered. But are troubled race relations really a thing of the past in the US?
Barack Obama led his campaign as if a post-racial era had already arrived, seldom speaking of race until the Reverend Wright scandal broke - his own pastor was revealed making anti-white and anti-American statements.
This pushed the candidate to address the issue head-on, saying, "I have brothers, sisters, neices, nephews, uncles and cousins of every race, and every hue... Scattered across three continents. And for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country is my story even possible."
Obama expressed hope, but also caution. Martin Luther King III, son of the famous civil rights leader, pointed out that in some states, very few white voters chose Obama.
Other black Americans still face an uphill battle - a poverty rate double that of the general population, and 1 in 15 black adult men behind bars.
For now, the commentators in the US agree: Barack Obama's election has pushed race to the forefront.
Barack Obama's presidency has been described as one that will be both post-racial and post-partisan.
Concerning the post-racial part:
1.) The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had a vision of an America where one was not judged by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.
In keeeping with those words, within a post-racial America, one (even a president) must not be judged negatively OR positively based upon the color of his skin. If one wishes to JUST point out (and only do that) that Obama's inauguration as president will be historic because he will be the first black or first bi-racial president, that's one thing. But to use his race as a vehicle to benefit him or his policies positively, that's quite another thing and is not in keeping with MLK's vision for America.
In a post-racial America, Obama's skin color would not be held against him, but neither should it be used as a vehicle to benefit him or his policies.
The MSM - in the course of the general election - did precious little to promote MLK's vision for America, Obama benefitted politically from this, and he did precious little to chastise the MSM for continually playing the race card on his behalf. His track record on this and other things shows that he, sadly, probably won't fulfill MLK's vision of a post-racial America.
1 in 15 blacks adult men behind bars is due largely to the fact that if one removes black single motherhood out of the equation that the incarceration rates between whites and blacks are about the same.
Probably has something to do with the poverty rate among blacks, too.
The real tragedy for blacks is that they wanted neither freedom nor equality, but rather, a general economic parity with whites. Distilled to its essence, that’s what the better part of the civil rights movement was about; not about who had to sit where on a bus.
As long as there is money to be made from promoting racial issues, we will never be a post-racial America.
Concerning the post-partisan part:
2.) If Obama does not reach across the party aisle to craft accomodating, down-the-middle, bi-partisan legislation with conservative Republicans his administration will not be post-partisan.
Reaching out to RINO’s will not suffice, since they are already practically in the Democrat aisle.
Democrats/libs might respond that President Bush didn’t reach out to liberal Democrats and craft bi-partisan legislation - but Bush did.
He crafted legislation with Teddy Kennedy (No Child Left Behind) and he crafted legislation with other liberal Democrats on other issues, too.
So, if Bush could do it, then Obama can, too.
If Obama doesn’t reach out and craft accomodating, down-the-middle, bipartisan legislation with conservative Republicans, then his administration won’t be post-partisan.
He doesn't have to reach across to conservatives, he'll have Senators Snowe and Collins in his corner.
Just look at the brutal thugs they elect to rule over them in African countries. And now we have a Black Liberationist to rule over us.
Reaching out to them won’t be reaching across the party aisle to conservative Republicans, because both of them are RINO’s (not conservative) and because both are practically on the Democrat side of the aisle to boot.
Exactly, so with those two, the Rats essentially have a veto-proof majority, there is no need to reach across the aisle.
But if he doesn’t reach across the aisle to conservative Republicans, his administration cannot be described by him or the MSM as being post-partisan.
Racism will not end until the blacks admit that they are racist towards whites. It was appalling when it was revealed what kind of “preaching” goes on in many black churches. Passing hate of the white man down from generation to generation like Obama’s preacher of 20 YEARS has done. I’m sick of all the black people saying they finally have a chance now that Obama is president as if whitey has kept them in chains. Give me a break.
won’t be long now, obamarama will let his brothers and sisters down
Anyone who thinks this will bring blacks into the mainstream and they will abandon their self destructive “culture”, victimhood status and constant whining for more pro-black discrimination is out of touch with reality.
If you want to get a white or black race pimp’s blood boiling just tell them that your are happy to see this Coronation because it will put an end to the national obsession with race.
I can’t count the times I have heard them say this isn’t the end of anything, its just a small down payment on what whites owe blacks.
Race pimping is one industry that won’t really need a bailout, although they already get far too many undeserved government handouts.
It will be interesting to see what happens once it dawns on hopeful white Obama supporters that this black man as president will not end racial strife and resentment - he will make it worse.
Here’s an idea for blacks....
STOP BREAKING THE LAW!

I think I'm going to put on the headphones and crank up Pandora.com.
Racism is alive and well. Today we saw the first black president sworn in. Not the 44th president of the US.
As happened in the senate, the blacks demanded that “O’s” seat be filled by a black, because they now own it. From now on the black own the presidency, and will demand it.
However “O” just blew is OATH.
