The country is in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, which isn't stopping rich donors and the government from spending $170 million, or more, on the inauguration of Barack Obama .

Employees at banks, brokerages and Wall Street firms donated $7 million Barack Obama's inauguration. (ABC News Photo Illustration)The actual swearing-in ceremony will cost $1.24 million, according to Carole Florman, spokeswoman for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

It's the security, parties and countless Porta-a-Potty rentals that really run up the bill.

The federal government estimates that it will spend roughly $49 million on the inaugural weekend. Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland have requested another $75 million from the federal government to help pay for their share of police, fire and medical services.

And then there is the party bill.

“The irrational age is upon this country like a plague.”

That would make a great tagline.

The ‘poor’ sure could use that money to buy new Digial Recievers for their flat screen TVs.

This is an outrageous and extravagant waste of our citizen’s money, all at a time of an economic crisis and during such an emergency in which hundreds of billions is being spent on bail outs to try and “stimulate” the economy, spending in this manner on a show case inauguration for the purposes of propaganda for the Democratic Party is a display of pompous wantonness. We should certainly not teach our children such, and we certainly should not coach our children that such wantonness is praiseworthy during a time of need nor is it justified in the cause of teaching them to worship a politician. This is an obvious indicator of lack of leadership, and harkens something out of the corruption of Roman dictatorships. It is not something worth our citizen’s hard-worked money at such amounts at this time, during this crisis, during these dangers.

If he were Republican, he would be crucified for his extravagance in the face of the worst economy since the dark ages. But since he is a Democrat, he will be praised for the brilliance of incorporating an economic stimulus into his inauguration.

ABCNBCCBSCNNMSNBC and the dead tree media were raving mad at the $40 million Bush Inauguration.

But for the Obamination and his evil party, $170 million is not enough. Even during the world wide economic collapse the democrat congress engineered.

"We have a budget of roughly $45 million, maybe a little bit more," said Linda Douglas, spokeswoman for the inaugural committee.

That's more than the $42.3 million in private funds spent by President Bush's committee in 2005 or the $33 million spent for Bill Clinton's first inaugural in 1993.

Wow. Obama spends $2.7 million more than President Bush did in 2005.

I remember back to the 2001 inauguration when we were in the first few months of an already gloomy economy, there was allot of complaints from the left about all the unnecessary balls, luncheons, dinners, dances, and all manner of celebratory events going on in D.C. These same voices are now silent.

Government becomes more corrupt and intrusive as it expands...Got news for you, it's not going to get "better".
