Mr.FF’s grandmother was born in the same village in Austria as Hitler. 12 years later. That gave me chills lemme tell ya. I never knew her (she died when Mr.FF was 5) but my m-i-l always said she was a saint.

I went yesterday to buy a new wireless phone. I went to the counter and asked to see one with mobile TV (which I eventually bought).
Anyway, the sales clerk asked why I wanted the mobile TV feature. “Are you looking forward to the Inauguration?” she asked.
I just mustered up a faint smile . . .
She told me that the last customer who bought that phone wanted it just so that he could watch the Inauguration while he was away from the office. Blech.
What is the difference between commuted and pardoned?
Freshman year of college, we all had to attend these speeches and things as freshmen. One speech was about how “if just one person would have told Hitler he was a good painter, he wouldn’t have been the person he became.”
I wonder how Hitler is viewed in his “hometown”; if there is some undercurrent of awe of the man?

Commuted is sort of like parole....You still have the conviction on your record, but your sentence is terminated.
Pardoned erases the conviction from your record, your voting rights are restored (I believe), and is like it never happened.
I would have given that salesperson my most put-on dumb look and said “what inauguration?”
I did that once with a hillery supporter at the Duchess County (NY) Fair in 2000 when she first ran for senate. There were tons of people and I wondered out loud to Mr.FF why the crowd. Some little old lady with a straw hat that said “hillery” poked her face in front of me and with a beatific smile said “hillery is here!” I looked at her and said “hillery who?” The expression on her face was worth it!
Next time, tell anyone with a similar remark, that you want to watch the Israeli’s reclaim Gaza.

Mr.FF says his grandmother always used the Hungarian pronunciation of the town, not even in German. According to the family she spoke 7 languages, including Yiddish even though she was not Jewish. It was the location of where she was born that people understood many languages.
