“Jim Hansen is the ‘grandfather of climate change’ and one of the world’s leading climatologists.”

#####

The two clauses of this sentence are mutually exclusive.

I’m convinced this Hansen will be exposed by history as an unscientific sham.

Frst, his alarmist claims do not seem to be supported by other scientists or even by the weather.

Second, this nonsense about the US “leading” is extremely unscientific, when China and India are on track to surpass us in carbon emissions and have no plan to do anything about it. Add in the rest of the World and it’s rather obvious the US can’t do much about this and certainly not in a 4 year time frame.

Even IF this guy is an expert on climate, he is out of his league when he starts talking about geopolitics.

Sounds more like a realization the “O” is going to be a one term Pres and DimoRAT control of the House and Senate might only last for 2 more years.

From GreenLeft.org

VENEZUELA: Chavez calls for global offensive for socialism
August 31, 2005

excerpts...

"The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible — global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes — with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet."

"I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I don't think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, 'tomorrow could be too late, let's do now what we need to do'."

"I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world — a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet."

--Hugo Chavez, at the 16th World Festival of Youth and Students, held in Caracas on August 8-15, 2005

"James Hansen, the director of the agency's [NASA's] Goddard Institute for Space Studies, received a $250,000 grant from the charitable foundation headed by former Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz. Subsequent to the Heinz Foundation grant, Hansen publicly endorsed Democrat John Kerry for president in 2004, a political endorsement considered to be highly unusual for a NASA scientist.":

James Hansen (quote), from October 2004:

"Several years ago I received the Heinz Environment Award. I don't know who nominated me for that award or how the selection works."

"I am confident that it has no impact on my evaluation of the climate problem or on my political leanings."

"In the upcoming election I will vote for John Kerry."

The arrogance and ignorance of the author deserves a monument; but, I do admit, it is a good and humorous way to begin the day. In gratitude, I commend to everyone's attention, brief though it probably is, the book "Red Hot Lies" by Christopher C. Horner. Most of the author's ilk will be dis-appointed to learn that there are no pictures of sleeping polar bears, ice floe, etc. Rather, Mr. Horner presents a detailed recitation of journalistic and pseudo-scientific mis-statements of facts, statements of non-facts and outright absurdities such as was penned in today's column in 'The Observer'.

Ideological shills such as the author, far too many of whom refer to themselves as journalists and/or scientists, do an extreme dis-service to the body politic and the body of knowledge by un-substantiated rants such as McKie's. If one wants to demonstrate that a situation is deterioting, one must first establish a base-line that is scientifically provable, not by consensus but by science. Contemporary journalists, and others of others of similar ilk, might refer to a dictionary to learn the difference between those two words. Once that scientific base-line is established, deviations from the base-line can be observed and conclusions drawn about the direction and benefits(including negative benefits)of the deviation.

The good news, from my perspective, is that the fools in the media have been so demonstrably biased and extreme that readership of print and eye-balls on the various screens are in a free-fall. Their respective landings will not have the experienced and tender hands of Capt. Sullenberger. The media will go bankrupt financially just as, years ago, they have gone professionally.

Aren’t these the same idiots who told us in 1974 that the world was going to starve by 2000 yet we’re as fat as ever??

Didn’t they also say there would be absolutely no oil by 2000 yet we’ve got tankers waiting to offload??

“...threatened by a global greenhouse catastrophe that is spiralling out of control because of soaring carbon dioxide emissions from industry and transport.”

Out here in the Chicago suburbs, if it spirals any further out of control, I’ll have to invest in a new snow shovel.

Here is my prediction. Within four years these alarmists are going to say that Obama’s policies have been so successful that the earth is now cooling. He has cured this impending catastrophe! That way they can't be held accountable in four years when nothing has happened to the earth. They can they say, we must continue our draconian measures to keep up our reversal of this trend. It's a win win for liberals.

Conservatives, we are sh*t out of luck unless we can disprove this madness and/or we the sheeple start feeling the pain of this nonsense in the pocket book.

“an office otherwise dominated by stacks of manila folders, bundles of papers and cardboard boxes filled with reports on climate variations and atmospheric measurements.”

The sign of a sloppy mind. Along with the notion that the climate is going to change catastrophically in four years.

Jim Hansen is the 'grandfather of climate change' and one of the world's leading climatologists.

And that's as far as I read. Perhaps cogitator knows something that would give me a greater degree of confidence in this guy. This "only four years left" stuff sounds like more scare-mongering to me.
