Applause for Biden interrupts Catholic church service
The Morning Call / The Associated Press ^ | January 18, 2009

Posted on 01/18/2009 2:24:46 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Vice President-elect Joe Biden worshipped and received communion Sunday at the same Roman Catholic church President John F. Kennedy attended just hours before his inauguration.

Biden and his wife, Jill, sat in a pew reserved for him and his family toward the back of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and listened as the Rev. Larry Madden, S.J., delivered a sermon about God as a constant anchor and the promise of hope and change for those who believe.

Although Madden did not mention Biden's name, the presence of the vice president-elect was obvious in other ways.

Secret Service agents were discreetly stationed throughout the church, including either side of the altar. Toward the end of the 11:30 a.m. Mass, as one of the lectors urged those in attendance to welcome new members and visitors, some in the congregation laughed and then applauded, looking toward Biden. He eventually stood and acknowledged the response that included a standing ovation.

Among those at the service was Biden's former colleague, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., a regular at Holy Trinity.

Then we answer to God.Let me ask you this.If Biden was in your church and got up to go to Holy Communion what would you do.Shout Him down or let him go.I am a little sick of this from the bulldog and I am fading fast from Catholic Radio because I can not defend it.

Exactly. Leaving isn’t the answer. Living our faith is the answer.

I figure, there are more of us than them, they’re just more vocal.

What would I do? Hmmm. Good question.

As an EM, if he came in my line, I’d have a hard time giving him Communion. However, I’m told not to deny anyone, other than a kid who is obviously too young to have received first holy communion. And, when I’m doing Cup, and a person comes up and tries to dip the Host in the cup, I’m supposed not to encourage it or stop it but it’s not allowed either. It’s all very confusing. I’d probably refer him to the Priest’s line.

“If Biden was in your church and got up to go to Holy Communion what would you do.Shout Him down or let him go.”

I probably wouldn’t shout him down. Who am I to do that, know what’s in his heart/mind? On the flip side, it would be killing me. Knowing what he stands for, how his years in the Senate caused so much death for the unborn.

He has to know he’s already excommunicated (same with the Kennedy family, Pelosi, etc.). I’d like to see a Bishop officially make a statement excommunicating him and those like him. I just don’t think it will happen.

Well the Priest is just as ‘guilty’ as Biden.
He is not supposed to knowingly administer the Host to anyone that has been excommunicated.
However, most DECENT PEOPLE wouldn’t put the Priest in that position, then again, we are talking about politicians...
Course now that ‘civilians’ can administer Communion I have taken myself off the ‘Active List’ and if I seek solace, will go to a Latin Mass

Most decent people wouldn’t put the Priest or anyone else in that position. I have a few family members who won’t receive Communion because they are divorced or something else. They go to Mass but won’t go up for Communion. And, sometimes during hospital duty (bringing Communion to hospital or rehab patients) some will say they can’t receive Communion and just want to say a prayer.

I think THAT is the big problem, they have mindlessly voted Democrat all their lives. I don’t believe they really THINK about the candidate, only their precious party. No wonder our country is in deep doo.

His church, the true body of Christ, will never fall. It doesn’t matter what the denomination is, only those living for Christ are the true church. We’re heading in for tough times for sure.

I can’t believe they have actually put THOUGHT into their selection. The MSM certainly lies to us and a lot of folks believe those lies. Luckily for us, we have FR!

You’re right. I’ve said things to them and almost lost them as friends, so prayer is my only choice. Thanks.

Agreed. Excommunication latae sententiae is NOT the answer. When priests like this one actively spread heresy and involve themeselves repeatedly in public scandal, it’s not enough to say that, well, he will quietly go to Hell in due time.

No. In the first place, it is the duty of his superiors to try to save his soul by counseling him. And if that proves futile, then it is their duty to remove him from the priesthood. Latae sententiae should serve as a threat and a warning to people not to commit these sins. But if they flagrantly, repeatedly, and publicly commit them, then it’s past time for the next step.

Since his immediate superiors are Jesuit heretics, it is AT LEAST incumbent on the bishop to refuse to allow him to preside over masses or to give sermons in any parish churches in the Diocese. And frankly, it’s time to kick the Jesuit order out of dioceses like Washington, if they are going to continually be a public scandal to God and the Church.

Thank you for the info but I maybe missing the point - I call for the church at whatever level to hold to account purported “Catholics” who are elected to office and able to form (or at least, argue for...) societal dictates that reflect their Catholic beliefs, not reinforce present cultural popular views. If they don’t excommunicate these guys, then the Church leadership is saying you the masses do as we dictate but those prominent folks get a pass. Shameful hypocracy up and down the Catholic chain of command.

There is no question at all the problems plaguing the Catholic Church in the US are directly attributable to the lack of faithfulness of its Catholic Bishops and Priests.

That those pretenders can openly claim to be Catholic is a gravely serious scandal. I suppose they both are members of the Knights Of Columbus, another certification that they are ‘practical’ Catholics, understood by most to mean ‘practicing’ Catholics.
