Applause for Biden interrupts Catholic church service
The Morning Call / The Associated Press ^ | January 18, 2009

Vice President-elect Joe Biden worshipped and received communion Sunday at the same Roman Catholic church President John F. Kennedy attended just hours before his inauguration.

Biden and his wife, Jill, sat in a pew reserved for him and his family toward the back of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and listened as the Rev. Larry Madden, S.J., delivered a sermon about God as a constant anchor and the promise of hope and change for those who believe.

Although Madden did not mention Biden's name, the presence of the vice president-elect was obvious in other ways.

Secret Service agents were discreetly stationed throughout the church, including either side of the altar. Toward the end of the 11:30 a.m. Mass, as one of the lectors urged those in attendance to welcome new members and visitors, some in the congregation laughed and then applauded, looking toward Biden. He eventually stood and acknowledged the response that included a standing ovation.

Among those at the service was Biden's former colleague, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., a regular at Holy Trinity.

LOL.

Actually in the lil Conservative Catholic Church we belong to applauding the Father or Anyone else during Mass is a no no.

I have no idea what kind of crowd goes to the Mass Biden was at.

Applauding him at donuts and coffee social time would have been the right venue.

KV told me Biden is Ditzy like I/Mom can be (slow to pick up on jokes ect) and IMO that is just not right for a Man and the next VP~OTUS to be considered ditzy makes me go hmmmm.

“Disgusting. Catholics would applaud that man?”

People that claim to be Catholics applaud that man. You and I know there is a difference.

God as the anchor and the promise of hope and change

Ugh. Branding God with the "O".

Which is one of the reasons I am no longer a Catholic.

That puts you in the same group as Biden then.

The Jesuits used to be a grand order. They seem to have become a bit more Buddhist in philosophy.

On that note, it always fascinated me that the left became so enthralled with Buddhism. The very origins of the faith state that life is pain and suffering and that we should attempt to extinguish the self. Meanwhile, that concept is picked up by a bunch of hedonistic, sometimes homosexual leftists in a way that makes no sense whatsoever. They grab onto some aspects of Karma and harmony and call it grand, partly because it has nothing to do with Western spirituality or a Western ethos—all the while ignoring the starting point of the faith.

I think that is in part what has happened with the Jesuit order and those agnostics and the like who put a lot of value in Jesuit education. The pick and choose crowd, if you will.

I think I’ll throw up. I notice a Jesuit was involved, of course.

I hope that pastor gets called to see the bishop, but I doubt that this will happen.

What will happen is that there is going to be a traitor in the Church, some high-ranking churchman, who will openly go over to the Obama side. This will be the start of the American Catholic Church. In case you’re wondering, as in England hundreds of years ago, the state church will wind up with all the buildings and most of the congregation.

Maybe we’ll be lucky and our bishops will hold fast. At least, I hope more hold fast than in England, where only one (St. John Fisher) refused to go along with Henry VIII.

Vice President-elect Joe Biden worshipped and received communion

Says it all before you even get to the applause part. I thought pro-abort Catholics were excommunicated by their own actions. It is past time for priests to turn them away.

I agree. Catholics, of all Christians, should turn their backs on these pro-death politicians. Grrr.

Well, he didn’t worship, but he did (I assume) receive Communion.

Sadly, he has never been officially excommunicated. His own bishop (in Delaware) I believe did say something to the effect that he should not go to Communion, but nobody else seems to have a problem with it.

All the CINO (Catholic in name only) pols have been told not to receive holy communion, yet they do it anyway. On top of the sacrilege, they spit in the face of Jesus suffering on the cross over the abortions of His most vulnerable little ones. And those “shepherds” leading the flock to perdition will have their skulls lining hades! As ever following history - there is now only a remnant Catholic faithful.

I have two dear friends who are born-again Christians who voted for Obama, and another dear friend, a Catholic, who voted for him. It boggles my mind.

“Disgusting. Catholics would applaud that man?”

Mistake #1:

Assuming that these people are Catholics.

I’d like to change that to all Christians of good conscience but I can only speak to Catholic church doctrine....

I wouldn’t want to impose on other’s beliefs......

Which is one reason, tho, we love our Carmelite priests. The Jesuits are WAY outside the norm.

So ... he delivered some pop-psychology platitudes and called it a day.
