Of those surveyed, 79 percent were optimistic about the next four years under Obama, the highest level of goodwill attained by any of the past five incoming presidents.
Most Americans told The Times that they did not expect real progress in improving the economy, reforming the health care system or ending the war in Iraq -- three of the central promises of the Obama campaign for at least two years.

Only 79% for the Messiah? What a bunch of heathens.
Most Americans told The Times that they did not expect real progress in improving the economy, reforming the health care system or ending the war in Iraq.
This is very funny. 79% are optimistic that things won't get any better.
“If you ever wanted to know how a whole nation could go crazy and support Hitler, just look around. Its happening before our eyes.”
So true. How many times has an American said with disbelief, “How could the Germans have ever been taken in by Hitler?” Well, now you know!
He won 52% of the votes but now he is supported by 79% of the people before he even begins to govern? What did he do exactly so he is now getting the support of the majority of the people who voted against him?
Lying bastards. No way.
Bingo.
Even if you account for a 10% error in this poll, it still gives us almost 60% of Americans.
WTF?
This is why giving up in the battle with the media is a horrible idea ... The media seems to be the main driving force behind this insane situation.
Why don’t these polls tell us where the samples came from. Were they all polling in New York, Maryland, California etc.. or were they a sample of every state in the Union?
My opinion is that these are all inside the beltway samples.
Where did they poll? Let me guess, in San Fran, NYC, Chicago and Miami? I’m sure a lot of fly over country was ignored as was any rural folk and most especially anyone who is a registered “R”.
I’m not among the 79%. Barack’s halo will come crashing down within a few months.
Those were my thoughts after seeing the news stories covering the “Abraham Lincoln” train ride yesterday.
I don’t believe this poll, even if it reflects the number of people who voted for McCain because they truly liked him, it seems skewed. Then again, if 20 percent of the people can resist this evil, we still stand a chance of surviving. Obama’s worshipers will apostate soon enough, all but the hardcore loons and goons that have been completely brainwashed by the Omedia. Be ready.
I am wondering if those here who pushed this doctrine will be celebrating this week?
79% of Americans think the next four years will be better. So what? Americans are by nature optimistic. I don’t think the next four years of my life are going to suck. I’d like to think the next four years of mine and my family’s lives are going to be better than the last four years regardless of who is in the White House.
these poll numbers are a bunch of crap
Great minds...40 seconds apart posting exact same thought...
I’ve become a minority.
Wasn’t CBS the polling outfit that would come out with a poll after each debate showing 79% of the people thought Obama won? It struck me odd that it was ALWAYS 79%.
If this poll is true, then 21% of the nation is conservative and the rest range from young to delusional IMO.
Here are full poll results. The results include non-voters. That’s why the support levels are so high.
And even with all the non-voters, the poll doesn’t want The Kenyan to shut down GITMO.
