Americans entering the military often receive Bibles, courtesy of the Gideons International. But the Gideons have been told that while they can leave complimentary Bibles at most military induction stations, they cannot stay there to proselytize or preach to the recruits.

Under Obama they will be handing out the Koran.
Strangely enough, I have no real problem with this.
Pass out Bibles to those that want them; fine. Attend a religious service of your choice; fine. Seek the counsel of a chaplain of your choice; fine.
Forcing recruits (a captive audience, by definition) to listen to YOUR version of the Word; NOT fine.
I have the same problem with religion in state-run schools.
PARENTS should decide what religious instruction their children should receive - military recruits (again, by definition, adults) should make up their own minds.
Does this also include OTHER RELIGIONS? If not, time for a class action suit.
More likely they will be handing out DD Form 214 as Obama cuts the DOD budget to nothing in order to increase the social welfare budget in to the stratosphere.
My oldest grandson kept his for his own use - he has joined the National Guard, and will ship out for basic training on his 18th birthday.
Bless you and your family for your service.
Neither have I. They hand out Bibles at county fairs and other community events, and will talk about the Bible and their organization's work if someone asks, but I've never seen one "preaching."
I hold you & all our military in high esteem & I thank you for your service.
Actually I see more of the reverse of this occurring. I see the military going up in manpower. The problem is I also see the good ones leaving and the military filling up with the less respectable ones. Much more crime in the military, Possibly (only possibly) a draft, and the don’t ask don’t tell carrying a heavy toll. I fear a couple years from now this less than today’s standard military could find its self on the streets enforcing curfew. Imagine the tools being used now against the terrorist being turned and used on the citizens here to ensure no viable other side of things. Yep worst case scenario but totally possible if you pay attention to many of the things said by the in coming administration and those holding power in the house and senate.

Thanks, I just did what was expected of me.

WOW! I didn't know that they were forcing the recruits to listen. Do they tie them to a chair or can they just excuse themselves and walk away?
I have kept mine all these years. I did not read it much there, but have since learned it is my comfort and guide.
What a shame. Perhaps the ragheads wanted to give out the koran and the powers that be figured it would get ugly.
A friend of ours gave my son a Vietnam era bible with a steel plate in the front cover.
(I placed my picture in there admonished him to carry it in his left top pocket over his heart. I didn’t want his picture of me to get bent. /sarc)
This is just pap. Recruits are not forced to acknowledge any religion, attend religious services or be otherwise preached at. All this is is an ACLU initiative to create a wedge that it will try to use later to ban all clergy from the military.
The Whiz Kid has said (Like that is worth anything right now) that the planned increase in Army and USMC is will continue
OTOH
Kiss the F35 goodby, ditto for
Future combat systems
new weapons systems
ballistic misslle defence
at least 3 carrier battle groups
other choices yet to be named.
The Army and the Corps will be the big “winners” - the USAF, and Navy, the biggest “losers”. As for the rest of the uniformed services - The One has been silent
Coasties may be left alone initally
Public Heath service - may be gobbled in some new Universal Health Care depatment
NOAA COmmissied Corp - was nice knowing you, Gore tried to kill off NOAA, and since this looks like Bill Kills 3, they are likely to lose big time.
Time will tell, as they say......your tea leaves may be better than mine.
In most civil wars the military tends to fragment into different groups, it happened here once and it will most likely occur again.
