Bush showed U.S. is no paper tiger

From the day President Bush took office, the long knives were out for him - in ways they will not (and should not) be out for President-elect Barack Obama. The chattering class saw Dubya as a walking style crime in a cowboy suit. They hit Bush for everything - for the way he mangled syntax, for the books he read, because he worked out too much.

Note now that the buff Obama is taking office, stories gushing about Obama's daily workouts flood the channels. Oh, yes, and the same people who belittled Bush for sending troops to war even though he only served in the National Guard somehow do not seem to notice Obama's utter lack of military experience.

To trash Bush was to belong. There was little upside in supporting Bush, even if you had supported his agenda.

Most of the Democratic candidates for president in 2004 and 2008 voted for the Patriot Act - and then campaigned against it. They voted for the resolution authorizing U.S. military force in Iraq - then bolted from the war itself. Likewise with No Child Left Behind. Somehow Bush was the guy who looked bad as he withstood the heat, while his caving critics preened.

When the Dems were pushing for a humiliating retreat from Iraq and opinion polls supported troop withdrawal, Bush instead pushed for a troop surge that has made all the difference. Vice President-elect Joe Biden - who voted for the war before he was against it - visited Iraq last week. While there, he promised the Iraqis that America would not withdraw troops in a way that undermines Iraqi security. Yet that was exactly what his party advocated a year ago.

When was the United States (primarily civilians at that) attacked on US soil by foreigners on our soil with the ferocity of 9\11, followed by all kinds of promises to protect us, going to a new DHS department on top of it, Patriot Act, color codes, and STILL keeping the border more or less open with no national plan for identification of illegals and deporting them?

I am afraid Bush had seven years to do this. All he did was conspire with McCain and Graham to keep bringing up, on behalf of their Mexican masters, the damn amnesty bill, and dragged his feet on the wall construction and true enforcement. Bush is the only two term president to this level to have thumbed his nose at the corrosion of our national sovereignty and territorial integrity ending with deaths for many, and thousands paid for this stubborness and corruptness with their very own lives. Oh believe me, the Democrat Congress comes in for criticism on this, too.

But we can no longer say this "At least Bush kept us safe" rubbish. It is not true and we have the facts and statistics to prove it.

“It’s in the public domain...”

The location of all Iranian enrichment facilities are in the public domain? Another goofy claim by you.

“you putz..you should STFU”

One of the nice things about The Free Republic is that members disagree with one another in a civil fashion. Resorting to personal attacks by calling someone a ‘fool..chump...putz..’ and telling them to ‘STFU’ shows blatent disregard for the rules of this forum. This is The Free Repulic, not a Ron Paul forum. Trying to shout down anyone who disagrees with you exposes you for who you are.

If you want a totally censored salon where the posters are ruled with an iron fist, head over to Lucianne.Com where your delicate sensitivities won’t be offended, and they’ll even provide you a complimentary new set of BushBot kneepads.

Finley Peter Dunne said “politics ain’t beanbag”, if you can’t handle the rough and tumble of it, you either have to grow a thicker hide, or keep on sticking your fingers in your damn ears and chanting that “Bush-always-right” mee-mee.

As for my stating that the references *I* stated were in the public domain, that is absolutely correct. If the information were NOT in the public domain, it certainly wouldn’t be showing up in Google of all places.

The only thing goofy in this exchange is your myopic perspective which refuses to acknowledge anything which might be critical of your hero, GWB.

If we follow your logic then no President kept us safe since the inception of the Republic. You are confusing regular crimes with terrorist attacks.

Well if it showed up on Google, it must be true. What’s the latest update on Bigfoot and Elvis sightings?

I am only being consistent.

You will find from the archives I was a virulent critic of Bill Clinton from my time on FR until his was out of office, on the issue of broken borders and illegal immigration rampant--and ultimately holding the Chief Executive of our country, the Executive Branch, which an elementary school civics course tell us is to be the executor of the Law--responsible.

For me then, because I am a Republican, to cast a blind eye to Mr. Bush and give him a pass for eight years, holding him to a different standard than what I wrote before, on account of some kind of self-serving, narrow if not corrupt, assinine Republican-First political partisanship on my part, would only make me a hypocrite.

So, I am sorry.

I am not a hypocrite.

I am consistent.

I will vary none whatsoever with this new chap taking office, too. And Americans will continue to die on American soil, unprotected sorry to say.

It is unfathomable that such a national security situation would occur for very long in a country without its people taking action or toppling those subjecting their nation to such a scourge.

All the gripers would be whining a
different tune, had he failed to protect
their area. Ironic and twisted, isn’t it?

Thanks for posting, E. Maybe most of Pres. Bush’s haters
have abandoned this thread for another place to spew their
vitriol.

God bless Pres Bush and our military .. the devotion
and hard work he and our awesome troops did to keep us
safe all these years, against all odds, will never be forgotten.

The ungratefulness of some people on this forum is shocking. I wonder if they are so ungrateful and so miserable in their daily lives. Certainly I do not want to be a friend with these people.

Just nasty and unkind, spewed so nonchalantly, and reflecting a pit of hostility and animosity bereft of regard for community, self-censoring or a desire for civilized discourse.

Any decent human being who wished to become a regular here, who wondered if this #1 conservative site on the web would be a welcoming place for him, couldn't help but have serious reservations, after reading a sampling of the hateful garbage you post.

I can't fathom what positive benefit it provides, here, and I shudder at the effect on the world of folks who watch us.
