Barack Obama's historic train ride to Washington on Saturday drew large, cheering crowds of people who braved freezing weather and gathered along the tracks in cities and small towns along the way in hopeful anticipation of getting a glimpse of the nation's next president.
In Baltimore, Maryland, alone, about 40,000 people stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the cold to greet Obama as he stopped on his way to his Tuesday inauguration.
His welcome was raucous and animated, as the sea of people cheered, waved and took pictures. Tears rolled down one woman's face as Obama spoke. "We love you, Obama!" another yelled out. "I love you back," Obama answered calmly, eliciting a roar from the crowd.
The same emotions were expressed up and down the tracks on the 137-mile journey, a trip that started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and retraced the train ride Abraham Lincoln took on his way to becoming president in 1861. Watch Obama share the love »
As he did so often during his campaign, Obama drew upon American history in his remarks to pose a parallel to the country's current challenges. He noted the struggles of the colonials, the "first patriots," against the British.
"They were willing to put all they were and all they had on the line," Obama told the crowd in Baltimore. "Their lives, their fortune, and sacred honor for a set of ideals that continue to light the world: that we are all equal. That our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness come not from our laws but from our Maker."
Later he said, "the American Revolution was, and remains, an ongoing struggle in the minds and hearts of the people."

He is incapable of caring for justice or taking constructive criticism. He falls apart like a jelly fish grounding on the beach. This private army thing is a “me too” “real soldier” agrandizing kind. It’s all for attention. There is no sense at all to his policies. It’s all absurd, and, as one poster stated, he claims he has no ideology but supports an ideology.
I think if Obama is the new Lincoln he better not go to the Theater
Obama doesn't have the credibility to lecture us about bigotry after his stint at Trinity United Church. He really isn't post-racial at all. He perpetuates racial strife.
I agree it is cult-like and am wondering which group or major supporter will have the courage to stand up and say “It is not about the man, there is something wrong here.”
I don’t think Liberals have that type of courage.
He’s touring the brain dead even before the funeral is announced.
Obama’s popularity is frightening. It is reminiscent of the adulation accorded third world dictators, and with so many people in America from those self-same third world ratholes, its not surprising.
Your post reminded me of how true symbol over substance is. In the midst of the Princess Di soapper Mother Theresa died. I remember Dan Rather reporting the news in this way.”From India, word today of the death of Mother Theresa. Mother Theresa was a friend of Princess Diana.” end of story.Symbol over substance indeed. We live in the Oprah times which have led us to the Obama times, and which may be leading to the American Republic’s end times.
There are few things in history more dangerous than demagogues who seek the perfection of man. They first really manifested themselves in the form of the architects of the French revolution and attained their apotheosis in the 20th century in the form of Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot. The founders never expected that any form of government could be perfected, given the fact that they generally accepted the Christian notion of the fallen nature of man, hence they dispersed governmental power so as to minimize the effects of corruption, and added a constitutional amendatory process.
This is why hearing such proposals from a political creature who hails from the most corrupt environs of Chicago leftist gutter politics is so troublesome. He has said that he rejects the constitutional constraints placed upon the constitution by the founders. I think that he intends to destroy its most important provisions.
