McCain Campaign Manager Blames Rush Limbaugh for McCain's Loss
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 2009-01-16

Posted on 01/17/2009 7:01:24 AM PST by rabscuttle385

RUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, have you thought back to the 2008 election? Have you asked yourself who was responsible for that loss? Have you asked yourself who really should shoulder the blame and the burden for the defeat of Senator McCain? A lot of people have been speculating this, a lot of postmortems on the election. Let's go to the BBC. BBC World Service, host Stephen Sackur spoke with former McCain campaign manager Rick Davis and asked Rick Davis on whose shoulders rests the burden of the McCain defeat.

DAVIS: We didn't successfully reach out to them. I mean, but you look at the leadership John McCain gave which is counter to the direction that the party was headed, when you have the Rush Limbaughs of the world who, you know, literally almost feed the nativist attitude toward immigration reform, what do you think the Hispanic voter, the Latino voter is gonna remember? They're gonna remember the attacks, not the efforts by people like John McCain to try and reform.

RUSH: So there you have it, Rick Davis, the campaign manager for McCain, has dumped on my shoulders the reason McCain lost and others like me alienated Hispanic voters. This is so wrong on so many levels, but it explains why this campaign was so inept. A brief time-out. Just wanted you to hear that so you could stew over it.

....McCain lost because of how he handled the bailout. He was in trouble before that, but that put the nail in his coffin....

McC stupidly made a big fricking deal about suspending his campaign.......leading us ALL to believe HE had a solution to the unfolding economic crisis.

And there he was--videoed walking the halls of Congress.

A few days later he was on TV debating Obaba while everyone waited to hear his "solution."

Nothing. He did not even mention the crisis.

His "campaign geniuses" musta come to the conclusion it was not good for McC to tie himself to the economic calamity........too bad he already done so.

Mccain picked Palin cause he knew he was going to lose. I know Im going to take flack for this, but I personally dont care for Palin, her going on SNL was like the Isrealites fraternizing with Sodom and Gamora.

Personally, I thought Romney would have given us the best shot. Not sure if he would have won, but it would have been a real fight.

Agreed. (Ducks for cover, kicks self for weakening resolve not to post anymore today)

Say what you will, at least Romney would have had the cash and the testicular fortitude to campaign properly. I am glad that he is generating some news coverage by critiquing Obamanduh's budget.

Come on Arizona FReepers! Come on Arizona Republicans! You've got to start now in order to have a primary challenge to McCain for 2010. You've got to unite around one guy.

We need this Weasel out of the Senate to prevent him from doing even more damage to our country.

What's the feeling in Arizona about McCain? Do they finally see that he can't campaign like a conservative in Arizona and pal around with Teddy Kennedy in DC? That game has to be over now, right?

YES...McCain was part of the Gang of 14

And even crazier...there were people on here who said “McCain would hire conservative judges”. In reality McCain was blocking conservative judges appointments.

The real problem with staying home .. ALL THOSE GOOD REPUBS WHO WERE RUNNING FOR HOUSE AND SENATE SEATS WERE DENIED YOUR VOTE - THEREFORE - YOU GAVE THE CONGRESS TO THE DEMOCRATS.

I didn’t want to vote for McCain - but my vote for other repubs who I believed would be good for congress were not able to get elected because there were not enough repubs voting for the top of the ticket.

I don’t think people realize how important that is - IT’S NOT ABOUT JUST ONE VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENT - it’s about all the other votes that good repubs are denied.

AND .. YOU CAN VOTE FOR GOOD REPUBS AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO VOTE FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AT ALL.

So .. staying home is NEVER, EVER THE OPTION.

How the hell did we nominate this guy?

That's a good first question. Now the question is, "How do we regain control of the GOP so this travesty doesn't happen again in 2012?". I think the answer lies in state politics and getting very involved in the local Republican party.

How do we do this, FReepers?

"...How the hell did we nominate this guy?..."

We didn't. The MSM did. And our party leadership, what of it there was, was too stupid to see it.

I never stay home.

Besides voting for Senators and Representatives, I voted against multiple bond referendums for all sorts of local and state spending.

“Staying home” sometimes means not voting for the top of the ticket. Many skipped the top and voted some or all of the rest of the ballot.

...Governor Palin and now they are trying to blame Rush...

Not the common element. Conservatives. Something McCain can never claim about himself.

Baldwin was really my only choice...no way was I going to vote for McCain...and it was just more than illegal aliens...he voted against tax cuts...prevented conservative judges from being nominated (Gang of 14)...his taking money from George Soros (Reform Institute). Even Sarah Palin couldnt cover the McCain Stentch

McCain, if he had actually followed through on what he was campaigning on “shaking up Washington”, he could have won. If, after suspending his campaign, he’d gone to DC and screamed bloody murder about the bailout, screamed foul about all the pork in the bailout and had actually forced a change in bailout runaway train, he’d have had a chance. But he went, said nothing, was as quiet as a mouse and then did nothing to change the course of the elite insiders. Epic Fail for the weasel.

I guess the McCain campaign doesn’t have any mirrors handy - so they can’t see why they lost!
