In keeping with the theme of the 2009 Inauguration, 'Renewing America's Promise,' the President-elect and Vice President-elect will hold events in some of the cities instrumental to that promise.
President-elect Barack Obama kicks off his three-state "Whistle Stop Tour" Saturday mirroring Abraham Lincoln's historic 1861 journey by train from Philadelphia to Washington.
Obama will speak in Philadelphia around 10 a.m. Saturday before he and his family depart on their journey accompanied by a group of "everyday Americans" who have met Obama or Vice President-elect Joe Biden at some point and told them a compelling story. There are 16 families coming from 15 states.
Plans were going ahead for an outdoor inauguration despite cold weather forecasts for next week. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s.
Somewhere between 1 million and 2 million people are expected to make their way to Washington for the swearing in ceremony and inaugural parade.
Some 240,000 tickets have been issued for the festivities at the Capitol, with 28,000 seats.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if no one showed up but the 12,000 military troops assigned to protect him?
“Wouldnât it be a hoot if no one showed up but the 12,000 military troops assigned to protect him?”
Now that would be funny.
I am sure there will be a crowd, but I bet it won’t be any bigger than for any other president’s inauguration.
This is the new U.S.S.A., comrade. Are you a card carrying member of the Obama revolution? Scary, indeed.
The inuagural is a spectacle not different from the orchestrated communist parades and displays of national unity.
The leftist wing-nuts and the slothful lazy do-nothings will be there in force. the Teamster’s local in my area
encourage their employees (loyal party members)to take the day off. It’s not an official holiday proclamation but the
message is understood.
Why is this silly staged train trip being compared to Abraham Lincoln’s? It’s ridiculous.
Lincoln traveled from his home in Springfield IL to DC via train because he had to. There was no other way. The trip took one week (granted it had a parallel political objective).
Obama is traveling the 125 miles from Philly to DC as a publicity stunt, nothing more and nothing less. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Lincoln’s trip.
And of course we have the utterly despicable American media regurgitating this pathetic propaganda, acting shamelessly and even proudly not as journalists but as Zer0’s PR flaks.
I think I see a problem here...
What they fail to realize is that Lincoln eventually presided over a country that fell to Civil War. If by some chance the same happens, the country will not survive - there are too many countries who definitely will not sit on the sidelines in the aftermath.
The media must lie or should we say “expand the truth” for their messiah.
Didn’t President Erect Obomba say he was going to get right down to work once he was inaugurated? Now he says he’s going off and give some BS speeches right off the bat.
Oh, wait, that is his job.
Are we the tax payers paying for this “Whistle Stop Tour”?
Thank you.
Will the comparisons of Obama to Lincoln never stop?
What’s he going to do next, emancipate himself?
These Obama people have never ever come up with one original thought or action. They are always trying to imitate something of someone. Have noticed that?
Obama is a “mile wide and an inch deep”, as they say.
Mr.Obama you are no Mr.Lincoln!!!! never will be...First he thinks he’s Kennedy now Lincoln..who next?? God
I fancy Obama as more of an Edsel than a Lincoln.
This messiah will have everything from Gay Bishops to Circus Clowns for his inauguration.
He kept saying change ..just not what kind of change.
Why does the MSM keep comparing obama to Lincoln? He is no Lincoln. Far from it. Unless you are talking about dividing the country as will probably happen within months of the inauguration.
Obama will speak in Philadelphia = sleep-o-thon
If he really wants to be like Lincoln he should go to a theatre.
