Secret Service agents on Friday arrested a man in Mississippi who wrote a series of entries in an Internet chat room saying he intended to kill President-elect Barack Obama, the Justice Department said.
The man, Steven J. Christopher, who is from Wisconsin, was arrested in Brookhaven, Miss., for making threatening entries on Jan. 11, 15 and 16, said Dunn Lampton, the United States attorney in Jackson.
The entries, which included racial and anti-Semitic remarks, were on a Web site that features information and articles about extraterrestrials, government conspiracies and unexplained physical phenomenon.
Mr. Lampton said, "Threats against the president-elect will be taken very seriously."

I wonder how many they rounded up from there in the past 8 years.
I wonder how many they rounded up from there in the past 8 years.
Why do they need to monitor chat rooms when they have mind-reading satellites and armies of lip-reading squirrels to inform on dangerous people.
(that’s a joke, by the way. really.)
From where? Wisconsin?
thousands of “libs” have made threatening remarks towards Bush.
The crazies are mostly harmless but i suppose there’s always that ... one.

“Obama takes slow train to Washington”
By Stephen Collinson, Sapa-AFP Published:Jan 17, 2009
SNIPPET: “Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice announced that a man had been arrested Friday in Brookhaven, Mississippi, after having made threats to assassinate Obama on Inauguration Day.
The suspect identified as Steven Joseph Christopher made the threat in a posting on the website www.alien-earth.org on January 11, according to the affidavit filed by the Secret Service.”
“made the threat in a posting on the website www.alien-earth.org “
Thanks again, Cindy for the additional information.
"Yes, I have decided I will assassinate Barack Obama. It's really nothing personal about the man," Christopher said, according to the release. "But I know it's for the country's own good that I do this."
Authorities didn't say whether Christopher had weapons, but the affidavit said he wrote in his posting that he did not own a gun and needed one donated.
"And I'll need a leak in the secret service to get a close up shot, somewhere close to the podium, since I've never fired a gun, so I need to an easy shot off," Christopher was quoted as saying. "Wattdysay fellas? Any help?"

How stupid! Any body that’s serious is not going to be broadcasting it on the net. And btw what law did he break, I’ve been threatened with murder by more than a few in my life.
From that forum... with all the conspiracy nuts on it.
Wow.
That site is a scattershot of lunacy and really hard to navigate but they did have a nice archaeology page.
[and I’m still giggling over the “chupacabra” pic]
Maybe Dennis Kucinich will help out with his defense.
I think there are some laws on the books that it’s illegal the threaten the President and public officials, or something like that.
I didn’t see the picture, but I just checked out that website also and I can’t believe it, but the idiot’s posts are still up. I didn’t even search, right on the front page of the Forum, 2nd thread..
