Fascinating letter about the cult of Hitler.
Economic distress begets demagogues and dangerous ideologies.

EV, it might be good, in light of what might be suggested by this thread -- that is, a seemingly, potentially prophetic parallel between the conditions in pre-Nazi Germany and the potential US conditions, at least in two realms: politics and economics -- that the letter be verified. Is a scan available somewhere?
And, in light of what is suggested, I'm glad you don't launch off into a defeatist dirge about how inevitable something awful is, absolutely.
No such thing is inevitable, no matter how close we come to it.
To: EternalVigilance
It’s eerily similar. We must pray for our country.

I fed this to my word pad and replaced Hitler with Obama, Hindenburg with Bush, Germany with America, etc.
Read it to an office worker. She said yep that's about right. Whoever wrote that is right on.
She even laughed about "Obama is coming now and then I dont have to pay anything" saying "I remember that lady!!"
Then I told her it was written in 1932 to Hitler. I just replaced the names.
She said quietly "oh my G_d"

Obama does have a cult of personailty. And that can be dangerous. People who have a fanatical love for a leader will look the other way, when and if that leader does wicked things. Hitler of course was an extreme example.
People need to keep in mind that their leaders are human perhaps too human.

Any parallels are those suggested by your own mind. I want to call you a coward for saying that but I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume I misunderstood.
But the fact is you posted this for a reason, and that reason is strongly implied by your follow up post; and furthermore, the author (who, from the link, appears to be one "Eternal Vigilance," -- any relation -- doesn't ask you to think about it, he tells the reader that he will "subconsciously start substituting names and date as you read the content".
That bit about "any parallels are those suggested by your own mind" is untrue.

Im sure you can find most everything you need to verify the story by similar meansSigh. Sometimes having manners is a thankless job.

Im sure you can find most everything you need to verify the story by similar means: It's incumbent on you to back up what you post, Pulitzer.
Anyone with integrity would get that.

You’re mistaken. The author is not “EternalVigilance.” If you follow the link you will see that the author/editor/commentator is Michael Walsh.
I simply thought the article to be so good that FReepers would enjoy sharing it.
Why are you bringing contention to this thread for no discernible good reason?

Why are you bringing contention to this thread for no discernible good reason? I asked a simple question in the most reasonable way. You reacted like a damp dog and the "contention" is all yours, turkey.
Thanks for the link. Cya.
To: the invisib1e hand
You’re questioning my integrity because I don’t care to hold your hand while you type key words into Google?
The author of the article gave you a cite. That’s more than most writers these days will give you.
Why don’t you go find another thread to dump on.
