At the board meeting today, Orange County deputies searched gun-rights supporters, especially those wearing CCW buttons, according to those who attended the meeting.
Although Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said she would let the permits expire rather than revoke them, her real disdain for freedom is shown by the presence of the SWAT team and the heavyhanded searches of law-abiding residents who wanted to attend the board meeting. Did the sheriff really think that gun supporters are somehow dangerous. Ive been to gun shows and gun events and have never felt safer.

Travis Says: January 13th, 2009 at 5:34 pm By one account there was at least 21 on-duty OCSD officers there to frisk the public. Who is paying for that?
bpsqwerty Says: January 13th, 2009 at 5:43 pm put in a metal detector! how hard can it be.
JohnnyVegas Says: January 13th, 2009 at 10:52 pm You have to screen people for weapons at any major public building today-but you only need 1-3 cops doing the deed-and I have no idea why SWAT would be involved for something like that.
Face it-public officials are universally hated today-and if not for weapons screening I bet a number would be knocked off.
Tacohunter Says: January 14th, 2009 at 5:10 am Thats funny .she feels threatened being around a bunch of middle aged white fat guys at a BOS meeting and surrounds herself with a dozen swat team officers, yet I work in Compton every day surrounded by some of the most violent gang bangers in the country and I cant get my permit renewed because nobody has actually taken a shot me yet.
ocobserver Says: January 14th, 2009 at 11:01 am taco,
My heart is with ya, man. Sort of makes you feel like a declawed house cat. Your owner shoves you outside every night at 11pm and wont let you back in the house until sun up. Maybe if you buy a pair of baggies and learn some popular gang signs theyll leave you alone.
Rick Says: January 14th, 2009 at 12:52 pm so how many were searched, and how many guns were found?
OCNewswatcher Says: January 14th, 2009 at 1:08 pm Until the people start flooding her office with calls of protest, or flooding requests for CCWs or taking to the streets like they do in San Fransisco . nothing will change. Nothing.
I too wonder exactly what she feared? I think its the attitude of law enforcement that anyone but themselves are a threat, at all times, and should be treated accordingly. I also believe that if anyone treats law enforcement as a threat they are called cop haters and gun nuts
Meh, what can ya do Nothing.
Eric - Costa Mesa Says: January 15th, 2009 at 8:46 am This pattern of behavior goes to her character. She feels she needs 20 or so armed body guards from the SWAT Team to go into a public meeting that already has police security reveals a real paranoia.
John Hardin Says: January 15th, 2009 at 9:50 am Intimidation, pure and simple.
4th Amendment? Wozzat?

Yep. There should be hot and cold running lawsuits over this.

agreed the left has been using the courts for years now to get their way and it’s high time we did.
You can bet that many visa’s will be going to Arica and especially Kenya now.
His national civilian security force which he says will rival the military will be ready to go soon.
I await their knock at the door because of my concealed weapon permit and guns
no there’s far too many left wing loons near our children already.
throw her off to the pig farm or something, maybe obama could join her.
O wait muslims don’t like bacon or pork
Until your heart goes into tachycardia...
Yep, the so called "non-lethal" tasers that will kill anyone with a pace maker(and there are some very young people with them)or arrhythmia problems or if they keep using it for prolonged periods.
That’s the least of my problems. I’m more worried about sleep apnea causing me to not get restful sleep. Or how much activity my brain does before going to sleep.
They won’t break me.
“Of course, even if there was no threat, thats probably the excuse shell use.”
And if there is a lawsuit, she’ll have to prove that claim.
“I have often wondered which side the cops would take when it comes down to a choice of supporting and defending either a corrupt, oppressive government or the Constitution.
I guess now we know.”
Not all cops are like that.
I know several who are military veterans who’ve expressed off the record that they’re disgusted with most of the policies pushed upon them knowing that such policies hurt law abiding citizens more than the criminals they were intended for.
I also know of other cops who are uber liberals and frequently abuse their power.
If all they want is to make you dead, and have it look like an accident, all it takes is a few hundred thousand “non-lethal” volts.
Hey, let’s not take this as “personal”! These SWAT guys are just following orders! Honest, I’m serious. And sarcastic.
If we think police and military units will NOT carry out the order to search and confiscate without probable cause we are seriously deluded. Individuals might not follow those orders, but, by and large the rank and file will....WACO is my example.
Police are here to follow orders from their higher ups and enforce laws as they see fit ... regardless if they are correct or not ...
Each year more and more laws are passed ... Many with the support of the majority of the people ... which just gives Police more ways to "protect" the innocent ... /s
I'm sure having power over the common folks is a pretty cool power as a result of having the job of law enforcement officer.
I'm not saying all Police are bad ... but many of the support law enforcement at all costs type people (some Freepers included) should NOT expect any help from the Police if our freedoms are restricted and an authoritarian type of leader emerges ... They will be the ones enforcing the new authoritarian type laws ...
Sadly, Gestapo like tactics do work sometimes ...
Since I'm particularly combative today, I'll leave you all with this beauty of a statement: Revenue Generation (safety checks, DUI checkpoints, speeding traps, other nuisance fines) are not protecting our freedoms or our rights ... they are strictly making money for their respected local/state government.
They’re welcome to come try it.
I should’ve been laid up in a bed in a coma. Tazer isn’t gonna do anything to me.
Sheriff Carona was brought up on corruption charges, and was forced to retire.
You have a copy of that statute Lurk? Since we’re both Illinoisians I would appreciate it.
I read he was accused of giving the badges for contributions.
I am still skeptical of her.
Hope neither of us ever needs to use it.
