At the board meeting today, Orange County deputies searched gun-rights supporters, especially those wearing CCW buttons, according to those who attended the meeting.
Although Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said she would let the permits expire rather than revoke them, her real disdain for freedom is shown by the presence of the SWAT team and the heavyhanded searches of law-abiding residents who wanted to attend the board meeting. Did the sheriff really think that gun supporters are somehow dangerous. Ive been to gun shows and gun events and have never felt safer.

Travis Says: January 13th, 2009 at 5:34 pm By one account there was at least 21 on-duty OCSD officers there to frisk the public. Who is paying for that?
bpsqwerty Says: January 13th, 2009 at 5:43 pm put in a metal detector! how hard can it be.
JohnnyVegas Says: January 13th, 2009 at 10:52 pm You have to screen people for weapons at any major public building today-but you only need 1-3 cops doing the deed-and I have no idea why SWAT would be involved for something like that.
Face it-public officials are universally hated today-and if not for weapons screening I bet a number would be knocked off.
Tacohunter Says: January 14th, 2009 at 5:10 am Thats funny .she feels threatened being around a bunch of middle aged white fat guys at a BOS meeting and surrounds herself with a dozen swat team officers, yet I work in Compton every day surrounded by some of the most violent gang bangers in the country and I cant get my permit renewed because nobody has actually taken a shot me yet.

My heart is with ya, man. Sort of makes you feel like a declawed house cat. Your owner shoves you outside every night at 11pm and wont let you back in the house until sun up. Maybe if you buy a pair of baggies and learn some popular gang signs theyll leave you alone.
Rick Says: January 14th, 2009 at 12:52 pm so how many were searched, and how many guns were found?
OCNewswatcher Says: January 14th, 2009 at 1:08 pm Until the people start flooding her office with calls of protest, or flooding requests for CCWs or taking to the streets like they do in San Fransisco . nothing will change. Nothing.
I too wonder exactly what she feared? I think its the attitude of law enforcement that anyone but themselves are a threat, at all times, and should be treated accordingly. I also believe that if anyone treats law enforcement as a threat they are called cop haters and gun nuts
Meh, what can ya do Nothing.
Eric - Costa Mesa Says: January 15th, 2009 at 8:46 am This pattern of behavior goes to her character. She feels she needs 20 or so armed body guards from the SWAT Team to go into a public meeting that already has police security reveals a real paranoia.
John Hardin Says: January 15th, 2009 at 9:50 am Intimidation, pure and simple.
4th Amendment? Wozzat?
Jack Booted Thugs!!
Swat teams have been warming up for 20+ years.
Wait till Obama starts to send his defense corps door to door.
Talk about profiling! They should file a whiney lawsuit for unlawful search like the muzzies and thugs do.
I don’t know if that will happen. But I do know they stay in practice and they practice on everyday citizens doing something than can give a pretext of “cause.”
From Wiki:
Sandra Hutchens is the current Sheriff-Coroner of Orange County, California. She was appointed to the position on June 10, 2008, replacing acting sheriff Jack Anderson, who had led the department since January 14, 2008 when the former sheriff Mike Carona retired.
Prior to her appointment, she was retired from the position of division chief within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Sandra Hutchens also goes by the name, “Sandi Sue”
She is a graduate of the University of La Verne and the FBI Academy.

One of the comments was right ont he money:

weve been playin the house game, by the house rules for years...
chip count is down, cards are dealt, will it be a 'fold' or 'ALL IN' ???
It will happen. On November 4, 2008, individuals alleged to be Americans ordained it via their vote to happen. When it will happen is the next question.
It is now out of the If column and has been moved to the When column.
So?....When it is time to defend the Constitution, on whose side will be these guy? Want to guess?
Remember Elian Gonzoles. After his “capture”, the INS swat guys went out and celebrated with a party.
Remember Waco.
Why yes, COPS are super human and perfect too, donchaknow.
Putting on flame proof undies lest a few select FReepers(?) are reading this.
Yes, they should. It is time to use Saul Alinsky techniques against them.
Except when you flash the sign to the rival gang

What were the searches based on? As a former Police Officer I know that any search and type of search must meet some requirement in law to set it off.
Simply being in favor of personal rights over government riights is not something that would be considered.
Also were all people arriving for the meeting searched or only those that were thought to support citizen rights?
If not then surely this action was illegal and open to lawsuits.
Not necessary. They don't show up to threads like this one. You can find them over on the weekly "Grandma killed in SWAT drug raid. Small baggie of marijuana recovered" threads.
The SWAT teams could only dream of the amount of arms that we possess.
Was called a COP hater, druggie, liar, etc.
Put the undies on just in case :^)
Sheriff Sandra Hutchens , domestic enemy........
