arack Obama: it is no longer essential to kill Osama bin Laden
Tom Baldwin in Washington
Barack Obama last night suggested that removing Osama bin Laden from the battlefield was no longer essential and that America's security goals could be achieved by merely keeping al-Qaeda "on the run".
"My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him," he said. "But if we have so tightened the noose that he's in a cave somewhere and can't even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America."
His comments, in a CBS interview last night, represent a significant watering down of the "dead or alive" policy pursued by President Bush since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. They also appear to contradict Mr Obama's own statements made in the election campaign.
As recently as October 7, in a presidential debate, Mr Obama said: "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority."
But yesterday, the President-elect adopted far less aggressive language, saying his "number one priority" was to protect America from further attack.
"I think that we have to so weaken [bin Laden's] infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function," he said. "And I'm confident that we can keep them on the run and ensure that they cannot train terrorists to attack our homeland."

I agree, what a DA.
I heard he may be backing off on the idea to close the Gitmo Hilton as well
I heard John Batchelor on the Curtis Sliwa Show tonight. It seems Tehran had a meeting this weekend and had given the go ahead to send small rockets from Lebanon into Israel. BO has been negotiating with Hamas for months. And OBL’s tape message was to BO. The tape said, “We think your a Muslim....Pull out of Iraq and the Middle East...And you’ll have a successful Presidency...If you don’t your an apostate and your Presidency will be a disaster.”
Batchelor said, “We are leaving Iraq and the Middle East.”

I doubt Hillary gives 2 cents about Rahm. He’s under the bus to cool off and reappear later
The rally cry for all progressivist/socialist/communist thinkers, comedians, pundits, politicians, and artists: America is to blame for 9-11 not our enemies.
Moveon.org began in earnest within a short time of 9-11.
Jan 21: Obama pardons Ossama
Looks like Obama is secretly planning his withdrawal from Afghanistan, which IMHO will begin before the midterm elections. Once the US is out of the WOT, 0bama can begin with his dream of dismantling the US military.
my comment was an off-hand reference to Hillary's criticism of President Bush for not finding OBL in which she referenced OBL's height.
Best regards, blu
What's happening is the Obamanites are laying the ground work for declaring the WOT and the Iraq/Afghanistan wars as over and done (albeit NOT won) — this so they can free up as much free money as possible for their cornucopia of socialist spending programs commencing on 21-Janury.
But yesterday, the President-elect adopted far less aggressive language...."I think that we have to so weaken [bin Laden's] infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function,"
I'm sure the American media will be juxtaposing these two statements. Any day now.
This “change” of Obama’s position on the fact that is not necessary to kill or capture Obama now is not the “change” we ‘hoped’ for.
Hey suckers. How do you feel now about your fearless leader?
I guess ... not so much now.
Barack Obama advisor: 'We'll try to kill Osama bin Laden' about 2:56 into the video
imagined if bush said something like this, there be outrage and ridicule for engaging in a phoney war on terrorism for political purposes
No, they represent an exact copy of Bush's policy since about 2002.
Yep, He evidently had a briefing from the Men in Black helicopters and saw the light
Yes, there has to be some underlying reason, that can't be announced publicly, for why we can't go after bin Laden (or prefer not to).
We could all guess about what some of these reasons might be, but maybe that would fall under "Loose Lips".
I seem to recall some tough talk from Zer0 about getting Osama at the Saddleback debate. Haven’t found that yet.

What a phony baloney.
