Barr Slams Illinois House Impeachment Resolution
Calls Blagojevich Impeachment Premature and Irresponsible

Former Congressman Bob Barr issued a statement today criticizing the Illinois House of Representatives for its resolution impeaching Governor Rod Blagojevich, calling such a move “premature” and “irresponsible.”

“To impeach a duly-elected governor against who there has been no formal charges whatsoever brought, much less a finding of guilt, is premature and highly irresponsible," said Barr, a former federal prosecutor and a Clinton impeachment manager during his service as a member of the United States House of Representatives in 1998-1999.

"To jump to the conclusion that a governor is guilty of impeachable offenses based on nothing more than preliminary, government-developed evidence for which there has been no opportunity to rebut or refute, is to render meaningless any notion of due process, equal protection of the law, or presumption of innocence," Barr concluded.

Barr, a former Member of Congress (1995-2003), also served previously as a US Attorney and with the Central Intelligence Agency. He was the Libertarian nominee for President in 2008.

Found this little gem today while googling Clinton's impeachment 10 years ago to compare it to Blago's upcoming impeacment trial. I posted it on the Illinois board and figured I'd share it with everyone else on FR.

Hope the 600,000+ "conservatives" who voted for liberal ACLU lawyer Bob Barr to “send a message to the GOP” are real proud of your guy. This creepy pod person claiming to be Bob Barr bears NO resemblance to the conservative Republican Bob Barr who served in Congress, the very Bob Barr who was chopping at the bit to impeach Clinton two years before anyone even heard of Monica. Now he thinks it’s “premature” to accuse Blago of wrong doing after he was caught red handed? If today’s Bob Barr traveled in a time machine back to 1998, $50 says he’d be serving on Clinton’s defense team instead of prosecuting him.

Here's another recent gem from "conservative" Bob Barr:

Barr Supports Closure of Guantanamo Prison - Endorses Obama Proposal

By the way, that's the EXACT headline from the LP website - I didn't alter it.

Boob Barf's voters sent a "message" to the GOP alright. You voted for liberalism and you'll get it. Good riddance to Barr and his RINO supporters.

Where did Barr find the time to make this statement in between defending child molesters and suing to keep local police from arresting illegal aliens.

This recent Fitzgerald stuff is only the icing on the cake. The rumblings for impeachment were being heard in his first term.

Maybe he became deranged from excessive trimming time on his moustache. Can’t think of a more parsimonious explanation, except that he’s looking for love in all the wrong places.

Just sent a personal letter to Barr’s press secretary:

Dear Andy,

I would like to thank Congressman Barr for his recent press releases endorsing Obama’s position on Guantanamo Bay terrorists and for denouncing Illinois for impeaching disgraced scumbag Governor Blagojevich. Congressman Barr’s statements have reinforced that I was justified in casting my vote against him in November.

Since that time, Sarah Palin has shown a bold, strong commitment to libertarian-minded conservative principles, while the formerly conservative Barr has shown himself to be little more than a mouthpiece for the liberal ACLU.

Thanks to Congressman Barr’s statements, I have posted them to various conservative forums and have been able to help many Republicans who cast protest votes for Barr realize the error of their ways. They now see that Barr’s election certainly wouldn’t have resulted in a “more conservative” direction for America. Many Barr Republicans now regret their votes, similar to Republicans who voted for Rep. Mark Kirk. Bob Barr was absolutely right that we should not vote for “faux conservatives”, so hopefully Republicans will never again be misled by Bob Barr after he renounced everything he had done in Congress to advance the cause of conservativism.

However, it is unfortunate, that Bob Barr is now working to undo his life’s work in politics and in the private sector of fighting illegal immigration, illegal drug trafficking, and terrorism. I strongly advice Congressman Barr to seek psychological help since it is clear that he is no longer sane after losing his bid for re-election to Congress. It’s quite tragic to see this once decent and honorable man flush his life’s legacy down the toilet. I have no doubt that if today’s Bob Barr were transported back in time to 1999, he’d be working for Clinton’s defense team rather than prosecuting him.

In short, rest assured that I will never again support Bob Barr and I am working vigilantly to ensure other Republicans see what a left-wing nut he has become so that they will no longer support him either. If Bob Barr wants to ensure he will never again hold office or enjoy the public trust, he is doing one hell of a job.

Yours sincerely,

[BillyBoy]

People have a lot of trouble with Constitutional process. Blago can’t be thrown in jail—can’t be denied his freedom—without a trial, without being able to cross examine witnesses, etc. But surely he can be denied the trappings of office—like being able to hand pick a Senator—and he can be impeached. He has an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He doesn’t have such a right to that job on those perks.

No kidding. Blago hasn't even been indicted. Barr is right on the money here.
