The Canadians appear to be smarter than we are.

My fondest hope would be that a gigantic Canadian oil spill befouls the gay beach that the author frequents.

To Canada, I say:

...eager to have their way with those last, tasty little morsels of land and ocean.

Some "last tasty morsel," that 90% of the American coast.

How redundant. I'm sure he has ample quantities of his own oil.

Save yourselves Cape Codders, quick put up windmills to supply Nova Scotia with green power.

This is a really disgusting article.

First of all, the people of Nova Scotia are much like what New Englanders used to be in the olden days. It borders on xenophobia to try to picture them as “coyotes” ready to pounce on poor lambs.

Second, oil-drilling by modern offshore methods is probably one of the safest, cleanest ways to get energy. Marine life love to settle around the platforms, as any fishermen in the Gulf of México will tell you. The rigs on George’s Bank may be floating ones, anyway.

New England promotes bans prohibiting even exploring for oil on George’s Bank. New England politicians are against nuclear power, against drilling in ANWAR, and the Kennedys are even against offshore windmills. They are against all practical energy sources — but they always sponsor legislation to subsidize energy cost for their “poor.” The New England liberals are the biggest hypocrites to be found on the planet.

Omg... hilarious!! Going to wipe out all those snotty Massachusetts Moonbats if there's an oil spill...

And, I'll bet the view that Fat Ted and John Kerry treasured so much when fighting against the windmills will take on a whole new meaning when there are oil tankers out in the harbor.

And, the smell... rofl... so happy I sold out of Cape Cod Summer 2007...

I forgot to mention that Nova Scotia produces natural gas from offshore wells without polluting their own coastline. And guess what: much of that gas is piped to NEW ENGLAND.

No one in Cape Cod should be allowed to burn any petroleum product.

Stupid author. I used to live around there and did plenty of fishing. Prevailing currents on the Georges bank are to the NE. Any oil spills would affect Nova Scotia, not Cape Cod.

There are oil and gas wells all over the Texas and La. Gulf Coast and they have only improved the fishing by providing habitat for the fish. The wells are where they congregate.

Screw the gay pickled herring, or whatever they're trying to protect. Start sinking drill bits now. The herring will adapt.

As a long standing FReeper, let me indulge you with a Georges Bank experience. Our 15 meter ketch rigged yacht departs Newport, RI early June 2000 ... second AM out we're approximately 200 nautical miles out to sea ENE off Nantucket over the Georges Bank. We are experiencing 18-20 knot wind and 6 to 8 foot seas. A line running forward to the genoa catches under the edge of the forward hatch, goes taunt, and pops the forward hatch off like a cork coming out of a champagne bottle. Not a good thing, as we're headed for the Azores at least another 10-12 days away sailing east into the Atlantic.

We access our situation, we couldn't recover the hatch, having already made a temporary repair, and decide to turn back to Portland, Maine.
Long story short, our sailing trip was postponed to the following June of 2001. This trip was a successful crossing ... two weeks to the Azores ... then on into Gibraltar.
