Obama to end military's ban on homosexuals, spokesman says'
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | January 14, 2009 | Matthew B. Stanhard

President Obama will end the 15-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" policy that has prevented homosexual and bisexual men and women from serving openly within the U.S. military, a spokesman for the president-elect said.

Obama said during the campaign that he opposed the policy, but since his election in November has made statements that have been interpreted as backpedaling. On Friday, however, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, responding on the transition team's Web site to a Michigan resident who asked if the new administration planned to get rid of the policy, said:

"You don't hear politicians give a one-word answer much. But it's 'Yes'."

The little-noticed response, made in a video posted on change.gov, made barely a ripple outside blogs focused on the gay community, but that's not surprising, said those who have been pushing to overturn the ban. Not only was Obama's position expected, they said, but support for reviewing or repealing the policy has grown markedly in recent years, including from some unexpected quarters.

The end of "don't ask, don't tell" may not happen immediately, several critics of the policy said. Although they appreciate clarity from Obama on the issue, they anticipate that the demands of the economy and two wars are likely to trump a speedy policy reversal.

"The question isn't if we do it and the question isn't when we do it, it's how we do it," said Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Walnut Creek, whose 2006 bill to repeal the ban earned broad support among Democrats in Congress but did not move forward in the face of a near-certain veto by President Bush.

"I'm going to reintroduce the bill in the next few weeks," Tauscher said. "We've got the American people behind us."

Good thing that we have some brilliant and creative people heading up the recruiting programs.

I think you hit the nail on the head (no pun intended).

It’s not about how well-adjusted heterosexuals deal with homosexuals. It’s about all the PC crap we have to swallow (pun intended) to work with homosexuals (and their enablers) who portray themselves as victims.

I appreciate your post as it clarifies your sarcasm which I missed in your previous post. Mea culpa.

I'll give you another scenario that will destroy a combat units cohesiveness:

Sgt. DU is gay. PFC KOS is gay. Sgt. DU orders LCPL Freeper to take point/diffuse an IED, enter a potentially boobytrapped room, etc. This is the xth time SGT. DU has done this. PFC KOS never seems to take his turn in the squad rotation. LCPL Freeper is killed/wounded performing these tasks which Sgt. DU has ordered. Now after Obama it "comes out of the closet" that both SGT. DU and PFC KOS are gay.

What happens to that Platoon/Company?

Regards,

TS

Is it even up to 2% now? I read and hear so many percentages when it comes to homos.

Seems like many more since they’re so vocal.

All portrayals, be it movies, TV, articles, etc. make homos out to be the “nice” guys/characters or “good” people.

Perhaps, homosexuals threaten because you are not fully secure in your heterosexuality.

Oldest line in the homsexual playbook: If you don't love us and accept all that we want, you are a closet homosexual yourself.

It's been overused, imo.

“You sound like a very angy and disturbed person. Perhaps, homosexuals threaten because you are not fully secure in your heterosexuality.”

That line is a smokescreen..a red herring because so many straight men become insulted by it and overreact. That’s the intent. Men need to diffuse the power of that line by simply not reacting to it or just say, “yeah, ok”...and then continue their argument.

Homosexuality is NOT the norm—but this move by Obama is a step toward forcing us to classify it that way.

The next societal pressure will be to shame us routinely as narrow minded, unfashionable, if we don’t dabble both ways we will be considered “uptight”...all in the name of the “enriching human experience”.

( Similar to the ridiculing strategy used to break down women’s historically selective, restrained sexual practices —calling them uptight, frigid, “hung up”...and pressuring females into the more indiscriminate recreational sex model men are wired for...in my estimation, this hasn’t been a good thing, but has given a lot of randy men easy commodity sex while creating an epidemic of broken relationships)

heard it was 2 to 5% tops
there was a homo website which stated that they were 10 maybe up to 15% but then they had to backtrack on that.

Long or little Jeremiah probably would know more but like I said at the top

How much longer are you planning on pounding your fists and throwing a tantrum because mcfreakinglunatic lost?

If mclibtard had tried to win, he might have, instead he did everything he could to throw the election to his good friend and colleague the senator from parts unknown.

And for what it's worth, No, I didn't vote for mcscumbag, I voted for Governor Palin like most who managed to swallow their vomit and put a check by the (R).

If you have to flail around looking for someone to blame, mcloon.

Obama may end “Don’t ask, don’t tell” but will Congress change the UCMJ?

great post
thank you

It is a shame that some folk now just go along with the agenda instead of standing up .
The name calling is pathetic and shouldn’t bother anyone anymore.

Has the media reported this and if so how are they reporting it?

I asked this earlier

Is obama just playing to the homos knowing it will not pass or is he actually really wanting to do this.

I cannot see congress passing this.
They will look at the votes around the country of homo marriage and realise that the majority do not want it and this could end their job

Wait a minute. Liberal universities tried to ban recruiters from campus, because of THE MILITARY’S policy against gays. If Obama and Barney just unilaterally change it, it really was never the MILITARY’S policy.

A good commander in chief would ask his military advisors for input.

A bad leader would come in and make CHANGES, without even gaining an understanding of the situation.

Obama’s 10 minutes playing basketball with the troops in Iraq really doesn’t qualify him to make decisions about the fabric of our military...a smart, measured, brilliant, tingly guy like him really should talk to his commanders.

There was a reason the clintons tried this first thing in their regime and failed.

after the CT sham marriage there was an influx of them pretending to be conservatives but coming out with the old line of how they know some and they are nice people and if you go against them then you are a homophobic.

Which that word doesn’t make sense as not one person I know is scared of them but more of they do not agree with their agenda
