Did you mean increasing the amount of all yellow? I read that a small increase in the yellow reduced all (not just broadsides, but rear-end as well) accidents at those intersections.
Increases in all red time have shown to produce a definite benefit. Some have argued that people can adapt to the increase in yellow light time. Though you are right, a test in VA showed a drastic decrease in red light running with longer yellow time.
When a law becomes too rediculous, people ignore the law.
This is an interesting topic. Research done by UNH has shown people moving up from MA to be somewhat more conservative than liberal. They claim people from NY, NJ and CT tend to be more liberal than conservative. Most people moving into NH are from MA.
The margins the liberals are winning by cannot be just from people moving into NH. A lot of it has to do with demographic shifts inside NH. This last election showed the Manchester area being amoung the reddest parts of the state.
NH has long had a "progressive" movement of hard core NPR addicts. These centered on the seacoast and the state universities. I think these people have become emboldened now. I don't have the numbers but getting the students at UNH and Dartmouth to vote in NH is probably a big factor as well.
The rats jumped the ship called Massachussettes and moved here. It’s as simple as that.
ACORN is at work here, police unions, anti-business atmosphere, you name it. It’s turning Blue by proximity.
Somone should follow all of these politicians around with video cameras to record everything they do(for their own safety, of course).
I am surprised this would come from Sheila Roberge.
Last I knew she was one of the few conservative Senators in our state.

“They claim people from NY, NJ and CT tend to be more liberal than conservative. Most people moving into NH are from MA.”
I have also read that the people retiring in NH from mid Atlantic states are making NH more blue.
They are moving into the lakes region to retire. However, I think areas like Keene ,Peterborough and Portsmouth have always been more liberal than Nashua & Manchvegas.
This gives me hope for our country.
I get you now. They are increasing the time that the red lights stay on in all directions. Mistook the "all" as being for all traffic lights instead of being for all the lights at the same intersection.
America needs a second party. The one party system has failed.
The best way to improve accident rates at stoplights is to delay the start of the green light.

She lives in Bedford.
Like all the other towns around, Bedford is strapped for funds, especially for the bottomless-pit governement schools.
If you’re in Amherst, then you know that Bedford has as many traffic lights along 101 as you do on 101A. Perhaps even more.
During heavy traffic hours, there are a *LOT* of folks that flow through yellow and red lights in the flow of traffic before somebody finally stops to let folks with the green light go through.
A lot of those folks just won’t be able to curb this herd mentality until they are snagged.
The red light cameras will be installed at the state’s expense, but the town gets to share in the revenue.
And yet, the republicans wonder why their coffers are running dry. Dang useless statists - always looking for a new easy way to leech money out of the electorate.
About 50% of our traffic lights could probably be eliminated anyway.
When I come upon a traffic light where I know that there's a camera, I will absolutely slam on the brakes if it turns yellow. I'd rather be rear-ended and be able to sue the driver behind me than get one of these revenue-enhancing false tickets. The more rear-end accidents, the greater the chances that these cameras will find their way to the scrap heap where they belong.
Works on the cameras and the politicians.
The conservatives moved south...
