Gaza: Israeli troops reveal ruthless tactics against Hamas
TimesOnline ^ | 1/14/09 | Sheera Frenkel

At the first sign of movement in the dark Gaza alleyway, Alon opened fire without hesitation. Snipers liked to operate at night, he said, and the area had been cleared of Israeli troops.

“He could have been advancing to attack,” the Israeli lieutenant explained. “We are treating everything as hostile right now. We were told not to take chances - to shoot rather than ask questions.”

Alon - he would only give his first name and rank - was part of the forces that took control of the Jabalya refugee camp in northern Gaza. It was his first day of recuperative leave out of Gaza since Israel began its ground offensive 12 days ago.

“The troops said they had had a taste of the traps and tricks that Hamas had laid in store for them: booby-trapped houses, tunnels intended to spirit away kidnapped soldiers, militants dressed in civilian clothing -”

Maybe Sharia Law should be amended to make Jihadists wear flashing lights.

According to the headline, it’s Israelis who are being ruthless, while Hamas (which has forced children to remain in booby-trapped schools) is not “ruthless”?

Sensational headline doesn’t match the content of the article.

Is it really difficult for the Pali sympathizing, leftist Brit reporters and editors to understand tactics required to put a stop to rocket attacks.

(1) No way the IDF is operating this way. (2) Even if the IDF was operating this way, no way a lieutenant would talk about it, let alone to a reporter.

This is 100% pure Hamas propaganda being pimped by the islamist symps at the UK slimes.

Hey, I’m down with it.

Even with the obvious anti-Israel tone of its inflammatory headline, this article reveals the IDF’s concern about civilian casualties, as well as the much greater ruthlessness of the barbarian enemy.

"it’s Israelis who are being ruthless"

Well, the jihadists could also be considered ruthless by not identifying themselves in a way easily detected at great distances.

Less they forget, it’s the Hamas folks who use their children as bomb delivery systems.

Shoot first, shoot last, shoot often

The MSM doesn't have a clue about fascism.

I’m supposed to take a reporter’s word for what is ruthless? I can judge for myself. And soldiers in combat can judge better than I can.

For Alon, a return to the action cannot come fast enough. “It feels good to be winning again, to show that we are still the strongest army in the world,”

Well, let's not get carried away there Alon. The US Army might take some exception to that comment.

Right. Everyone knows that Hamas plays by the rules. [/sarc]

The brutal tactics they use against both the Israelis and their own people pale in comparison.

The US Army might take some exception to that comment.

If we had fought this way in Afghanistan and Iraq, we'd have less than half of the death toll that we've accumulated so far in those two places. It's sure not the military's fault, it's that "compassionate conservative" commander-in-chief.

Glad to see Israel learned its lessons from Lebanon a couple of years ago.
