President George W. Bush will give a farewell address to the nation Thursday night, billed by the administration as a chance to reflect on his tenure and welcome Barack Obama without fighting old battles one last time.

Bush will deliver the speech, expected to run 10 to 15 minutes, from the ornate East Room of the White House. He will have a small audience of people in the room, chosen for their stories of personal courage.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday that Bush will "uphold the tradition of presidents using farewell addresses to look forward — ....

*snip*

Perino said the speech will be the last scheduled public event for Bush as president until he appears on the North Portico to greet Obama on Inauguration Day, which is Jan. 20.

Like it or not, President Bush will be given a fitting departure for the next week on FR, if/when news articles come up about him. No more damage was done to the Conservative movement in eight years than his term IMHO. Of course, we will stay away from the FR personality cult threads and honor the ground rules, but if they are straight news stories on this man’s dwindling legacy, don’t expect it to be just a nice, sweet, uncontroversial ice cream social for the next week on FR. So many of us are glad he will be GONE and no longer a factor in our Republican Party, as it rebuilds from his mess. And dont worry; this energy will be channeled into a stern opposition to President Obama and his idiocies...but first things first.

You have your facts wrongly, sorry to say. But keep asserting it if you wish, it is fine with me as you continue to make a fool of yourself.

“...mischaracterization and direct
insult to our awesome military.”

Leave our military out of it. Did I ever mention it? Are you trying to put words in my mouth that I never spoke? All I am saying is that if you allow open borders, illegal aliens to roam around and the immigration of people that hate this country, the result can only be disasterous.

We had a good military on 9/11/2001 but it was unable to stop the 4 planes to create the havoc they did, and noone is expecting our military to fight that kind of warfare. Our military fights bravely and efficiently in Iraq and Afghanistan but the people they engage in combat are just a bunch of dummies compared to the ones that slip into our country undetected or under false pretenses.

Our military fights common cannon fodder. The terrorists, waiting in the wings, are the ones who are educated, wear three-piece business suites, are often college graduates, are fluent in English and know how to plan on a grand scale and are too valuable for Al-Qaeda to sacrifice in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Again, our military’s role in the fight against terrorism is different from what we need at the home front.

What facts are you talking about? Simple question, did you like Ronald Regan. This is the fourth time asked it to you and you have not answered. Not hard, it is a yes or a no.

Good bye President Bush. You may not have been the best on every issue but you certainly were better then Gore or Kerry.

I thank you sir for your service.

Fred Barnes, who hasn't been a staunch supporter of this Presiden, wrote an interesting article about the 10 things GWB got right link History will judge this man favorably IMHO.

Sadly, that’s about it. If the Dems had been in control of the Congress during his term at least we could give him that. Instead he had a Republican Congress for six of his eight years.

That you have remained safe and free and are able to sit at a keyboard and rant, is within itself something enormous for one to be grateful.

Absolutely true. Certainly attributable to a merciful God. Much less so to a humanistic, hubristic and pluralistic President who was blind to our worst enemies, vulnerabilites and liabilities.

I predict you’ll be downright surly after 4-8 years of President Obama...

Probably, but not as surprised and disapointed.

He did some liberal things I didn’t like, but for the most part, he was a good conservative president and gave us some great Supreme Court justices. Give him a B.

I will step up.

As far as 9/11, the President was handicapped by the rules left in place by Bill Clinton and Jamie Gorelick (the infamous "Wall"), keeping the Bush administration from "connecting the dots." If you don'thave the information, you can't do anything to stop it.

As far as the DC snipers, no one could have stopped them from starting their rampage, unless you had had some draconian anti-gun, anti-movement poliies.

Blaming Bush for the DC snipers is asinine. Blaming him for 9/11 puts you in the same group with the truthers on Daily Kos.

No, I wonder if the prison will let the former border patrol agents out to watch their chief executive?

last I looked, has been responsible .. along with our unparalleled military .. for preventing terrorist attacks

1. Terrorist attacks cannot be prevented. DC Sniper
2. Trying to prevent terrorist attacks inflicts great costs on a nation. Homeland Security, Nation Building, Anaphylaxis etc.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in killing Bin Laden and Saddam Hussain and punishing nations that sponsor terrorism, but I don't think that Islam is a religion Of peace; that Muslims make good democratic citizens; or that TSA workers making me take off my shoes are keeping me safe.

Yep, it is what it is.

America is dead and gone. What’s left is a land mass populated by cretins and parasites who have absolutely no respect for the military and who vote for big government to confiscate money from their neighbors so that it may be “redistributed” to them. It is not an America worth defending anymore.

Whatever. I just live here.
Every man for himself.

As far as the DC snipers, no one could have stopped them from starting their rampage,

WRONG Miss Marple. Citizens, armed, could have taken these punks out in a heartbeat. Not every citizen, just those who care to protect themselves and families. Sure, the cowards shot from a distance, but there are more than a few who could have responded were we not neutered by the common misconception that all guns are bad.

I'll let you in on a little secret: there are some bad people headed your way. They are desperate and will use 'force' to get what they want. And no, not all of them work for the government. The times have changed and you will see more and more assualts on people who never in their lives would have anticipated such.

It happened just the other day to a woman putting groceries in her car in front of a Safeway with two kids in tow. Robbed in broad daylight, in a town not likely to tolerate this kind of activity (the cops are real bad-asses).

Perhaps you've noticed the increase in weapon and ammunition purchases taking place recently. The people are voting with their dollars. And, there isn't one stinking politician within 3000 miles who'd support a person's right to gun-up, not Bush, or any other, 'cause their conservatism is a mile wide and an inch deep. And they suck. Real Americans don't even listen to them, that's for John (sleeping around) Edwards' other America- the saps and losers.

As I once suggested long ago, make me King(remember that?) and I'll fix this place once and for all. You simply start with the basics and work your way up from there.

If a former Texas governer can strike-out on the field of play, what the heck chance do we have with a Chicago thugster of ever living the American dream? None and Zero come to mind. Reality throws a mean fastball. Watch out for her curves.

*sigh* History will be the ultimate judge of his presidency. For all the hatred, scorn, and taunting this man has put up with for 8 years he’s earned his hopefully peaceful and long retirement. I hope we get the communication we should’ve gotten from him throughout his tenure.

The issues like amnesty, prescription meds, education, bailouts, and “compassionate conservatism” have lowered his stature in my view, but the man kept us safe ever since 9/11.

Unfortunately for him, we many never know whats kinds of plots or even how many his policies foiled but because he has been strong for the troops and stuck to his guns about security issues I believe history will judge him fairly.
