Bush to give farewell address Thursday night

President George W. Bush will give a farewell address to the nation Thursday night, billed by the administration as a chance to reflect on his tenure and welcome Barack Obama without fighting old battles one last time.

Bush will deliver the speech, expected to run 10 to 15 minutes, from the ornate East Room of the White House. He will have a small audience of people in the room, chosen for their stories of personal courage.

White House press secretary Dana Perino said Monday that Bush will "uphold the tradition of presidents using farewell addresses to look forward — ....

Perino said the speech will be the last scheduled public event for Bush as president until he appears on the North Portico to greet Obama on Inauguration Day, which is Jan. 20.

However I suspect President Bush will not be one to hit the tour circuit but rather remain off stage. It’s not his demeanor to seek that kind of attention, imo.

Your suspicions were confirmed today as that is precisely what our President said to the press -- he will not seek the klieg lights but will exit the stage quietly. He will not criticize his successor believing nothing is gained (are you listening Carter/Clinton?)and only wishes him much success. He is one class act and I will miss him terribly.

I agree. We have been safe for years, even though we were certain we would be hit again as every OTHER country was hit time after time. He and our brave military and the good people who are the line between us and barbarians have held strong.

You see that not a single Bush supporter will address the issue of the thousands of Americans who died on US soil during his 8 years. I still have not a single one to step up here and say it is a non-issue, and that Bush has no responsibility over it, and therefore he is/was a great president. I want someone to challenge the point I am making that he failed abjectly “in protecting us” because of these who died, whose number even surpassed the dead of 9-11. If one can debate it, fine. Being called a DUer does not engage in debate, and is mere cowardice and inability to address this inconvenient reality about the Bush Administration.
