I am simply grateful to have moved away from that part of the country 20 some years ago. I can’t imagine what it must be like there right about now for this “historic” event. Every bridge in from Virginia will be closed to regular traffic. It must resemble some ghastly militaristic movie version of a police state. And, no I don’t plan to watch. If the weather becomes a major factor in the whole thing, though, that may cause me to switch it on just for that spectacle. Freezing huddled fools out in a dead of winter blizzard to worship their leader might be very entertaining.

The Secret Service folks have a wild hair about I-95 South in Virginia. They were out checking buildings that overlook the highway as far away from DC as Woodbridge VA.

They keep a lot of their more heavy duty equipment down at Quantico so it's possible they are simply checking things to make sure nothing unusual has happened/will happen that might make passage to DC in case of an emergency difficult.

Although the earliest news indicated the 14th street bridge would be closed to ALL traffic, they now intend to permit pedestrians and will allocate a full highway lane for that purpose. I believe automobiles will be prohibited from like 4AM to 4PM ~ they announcements have changed the closure times enough I doubt they really know.

We are getting far greater than normal helicopter traffic in the corridor and I've heard a couple of fighter jets tuning up ~ kind of like after 9/11.
