Peggy Noonan: Mere Presidents: American leaders are mortal, not magical.
The Wall Street Journal ^ | January 9, 2009 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 01/11/2009 11:03:31 AM PST by EveningStar

He didn't seem distracted, like he was thinking about lunch, and he didn't seem to be deflecting responsibility, but taking it. This was a relief, and rather unusual in a Washington politician, or pretty much any politician...

It struck me as I watched Barack Obama, in giving a substantive economic speech just 11 days before his inaugural address, that he was trying to clear away a lot of brush...

The brush-clearing suggests the inaugural itself won't be programmatic, bureaucratic or factoid-laden but more broadly gauged and reaching at something higher. Will he reach for poetry? I hope so, if poetry is defined as no wasted words on the way to the thought and the thought is worthy and true...

It looks like Ms. Noonan is trying to have it both ways - disapproving of president worship, but engaging in it herself (Obama).

Noonan trashed Palin, and praises Obama....she has lost it.

Peggy has lost whatever mind she had left. It must be senile dementia, although she’s not all that old.

Her writing style is getting more and more childish every day. She’ll never sound quite like Maureen Dowd, but she’s trying.

This is the mandatory “please take me back GOP, I’m a conservative..honest” article that everyone must be waiting for from Peggy Noonan.

I see Peggy is trying to get on the D.C. insider’s party invite list with her fawning praise.

Peggy would be wise to take her own advice.

I think Ms. Noonan needs to put the vibrator away and start thinking with her brain.

I used to think she was insightful. Not so much anymore... She probably needs another source of income and is hedging her bets so she can write a book about Obama.

It’s the nature of politicians and insiders. They want to participate and will do what it takes.

This is why everyone dislikes all politicians except for women who love them.

They aren’t ideologues. They merely work for the highest bidder. It kindof reminds me of Carvile and what’s her name. Explain any of this to me, because I couldn’t operate that way. Not a chance...

You can imagine that fighting for the truth is a lonely battle among the leftists and Kool aid drinkers in D.C. She is old and has given up. She has learned to love Big Brother for the comfort of inclusion among the drones. Better to just remember her the way she was when she had the strength for the fight.

Oh ... Kay. Peg is starting to apologize for Obamalamadingdong already. And he hasn't even taken office yet. Wish she would have been a little more tolerant of Palin.
