Beginning Jan. 16, Girl Scouts of the Moccasin Bend Council will be practicing Spanish as they ask customers to purchase the Dulce de Leche (DOOL-seh deh LEH-chay) cookies which means "candy of milk."
Inspired by the classic confections of Latin America, the all-new Dulce de Leche cookies are rich with milk caramel chips and stripes and have a hint of cinnamon.
This latest Girl Scout cookie adds an international flair to this year's Girl Scout Cookie Season. This new cookie also gives Girl Scouts a unique opportunity to celebrate Latin-American cultures and learn a little "Cookie Spanish" at the same time.
"The Cookie Program allows girls to put into practice life skills they learn in Girl Scouting," says Girl Scout CEO Linda J. Rath.
"It helps them use math skills to manage money. Our cookie program also teaches them the importance of developing business and entrepreneurial skills they need to succeed in tomorrow's workforce."
From Jan. 16 through March 13, Girl Scouts will be out in full force taking orders for this annual sale.
Cookies are $3.50 per box. Delivery on pre-orders will take place the end of February and first of March.
Girl Scouts will also be out in their community selling cookies in front of area businesses the weekends of Feb. 27, March 6 and March 13.
Girl Scouts will also be asking customers to purchase additional boxes of cookies to support the military in "Operation Taste of Home."
Customers will also be invited to write a letter of support and encouragement to be included with the cookies that the girls will ship.
If there isn't a Girl Scout in your neighborhood, you may purchase cookies at the Girl Scout Service Center, 1936 Dayton Blvd. in Red Bank, or contact the Council to request a Girl Scout troop take your order at 877-2688, 1-800-446-2472 or by e-mail: cookies@mbgsc.org.
“The word for that is “prejudice” or “bias.” “
Proud of it!
My blood serum triglycerides scream “nada”.
I agree completely on foreign languages and that there's no reason that the Girl Scouts shouldn't learn a little Spanish. My response was just to point out one of the primary reasons that all those kids in other countries are learning English rather than some other foreign language.
“Maybe get our TV & radio stations and hell why not just change over to Spanish anyway as most of of consumers, workers & voters speak it anyway.”
Anybody whom thinks this country is going to change over to Spanish is seriously delusional. As pointed out by another poster, English is the common global language.
Sounds like a porn name sounds nasty I will take a few box’s thanks
The new cookies are really good. Alas I had to spell out the name phonetically so that even the Troop Leader could pronounce it properly. There is one Spanish speaking girl in our troop, but she didn’t make the meeting Thursday evening and apparently the only other parents that know any Spanish are my husband and me.
But at least I’m not the cookie Mom this year!!!!!!
I can almost picture it.
I don't that situation has every happened to me :)
LOL - I’ll bet a dollar not more than a handful of folks here are familiar with that tasty treat.
Oh, you mean like pizza, hamburger, frankfurter, spaghetti, tacos, Gouda... I could go on. You get the picture.</
I’ve disliked several kinds of Girl Scout cookies.
Thank you Diana in Wisconsin!!
If you’re extra good, I might send you some cookies, too. :) Thanks again for all you do for us. It IS appreciated! :)
The U.S. is generally way, way, way behind other civilized countries, where kids start learning English at a very young age.
Spanish to English
dulce de leche = Candy of milk
A better translation would be 'caramel', don't you think?
I am a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and while local troops are mostly OK the nation organization has been seized by liberal wackos. At one time they were partnered with Planned Parenthood then parents and Christian media began to scream, so they pulled back. Anyone with a daughter in scouts today needs to stay vigilant.
Kalee who never met a Thin Mint she didn’t like. lol
Holy mierde, que mas?
I also dislike several kinds of GS cookies, including the ones my husband insists on always getting (I don’t like coconut)————but in general I just like cookies :)
