Five Sirius Star pirates drown in fight over $3million ransom
By Lesley Yarranton, sundaymirror.co.uk 11/01/2009
Five of the Somali pirates who hijacked a Saudi supertanker drowned when their boat capsized as they fought over the $3million ransom.
Their boat, one of a fleet used to abandon the Sirius Star after holding its 25 crew hostage for two months, overturned as they left with their share of the booty yesterday.
An associate at the Somali port of Haradheere near where the tanker was held said: "The wind blew it over then sank it"
Three survivors reached shore after swimming for hours, but all eight's share of the ransom was lost.
Two Britons among the Sirius crew, chief engineer Peter French from Co Durham and Scot James Grady will be flown home when the 1,000ft vessel reaches safety with its Û100million cargo of oil.
A dozen other ships with 300 crew are still being held by pirates.
< sniff> I always get all choked up when a story has a happy ending.
They must have got the consolation prize, their 72 raisins face to face with the Devil.
BWAAAAHAHAHAAAA! Good riddance! And the survivors money went down with the ship, I’ll bet!
LOL, I wonder what weapon the sub launched.
shhhh. its secret.
Instead of $600K each, it’s $1000K each ...
How many holes does it take to sink a human body?
A story with a Happy Ending! WOO HOO!!!
Just another terrible case of dihydrogen monoxide poisoning....
It must be stopped.
Just like the Pardoner’s Tale. Men go looking for Death and then are shocked to find it.
