It has become increasingly clear that the presumed agent of fundamental change in the way Washington does business is firmly committed to the oldest tool in the Washington toolbox: the notion that government, using our money, can spend its way to widespread prosperity.
In his speech on the economy and his stimulus package Thursday - a speech still notably short on details - the president-elect declared that "only government can provide the short-term boost necessary to lift us from a recession this deep and severe." The unspoken assumption behind such a statement is that government has a virtually inexhaustible supply of money that can be deployed without having deleterious side effects, only beneficial ones.
The problem, of course, is that government has no money of its own, only the money it takes by force from the productive sector of society or it borrows and must pay back with taxes extracted from our children and grandchildren.

With thoughts like this “Obama thinks he can spend us to prosperity” no wonder he hides his university grades and everything else! I keep trying to tell my self that Obama is NOT an idiot. It’s not working!
The RATS and MSM are trying to make him the black Franklin Roosevelt or the black John Kennedy and we know why. He doesn’t have any experience. So they’re reaching into their bag of tricks to come up with something that worked in the past. Since Kennedy didn’t live long enough to see his ideas but Johnson pushed them through Congress, so Roosevelt and his New Deal had to be reached for.
Of course -- they always will be.
His job is to spew glittering generalities to the gullible half of the American public. Meanwhile ,the people who pull his strings make the decisions.
what a moron...Oh well...I see another "Jimmy Carter" four years redux in our future...who says "Communism is dead."
Here is the solution: Cut taxes, cut spending, balance the budget and watch this economy BOOM! But we won't see it for at least four more years...where is RR when we really need him!
The OC Register is correct.
Government’s life blood is private enterprise, which they tax and regulate to pay for themselves and entitlements.
Obama wants the private sector to be eliminated and the USSR to be reconstructed with the Leftists as Party members. The problem here is that we are not going to lie down and take it...I hope.
Summary of The Dalai Bama’s Philosophy of Government:
“Only government can provide”
I have another thought...
“Obama thinks”, no Obama reacts.
Trillion dollar deficits are a present for our kids. If govt was a business it would have been shut down a century ago or more.
spending us to prosperity is kinda like screwing to virginity
Increased government spending, however financed, takes money from the private wealth-generating sector of society and allocates it to projects not on the basis of their capacity to be economically self-sustaining, but on the basis of their political attractiveness. The hive of lobbyists seeking their piece of the stimulus pie, from private companies to state and municipal governments to federal government agencies, is evidence that much of the money will be allocated on the basis of political influence rather than economic sustainability.
The problem, of course, is that government has no money of its own, only the money it takes by force from the productive sector of society. . .
Repeat often and spread the truth.
Prosperity? No it's the 1960s street rabble proclamation, "Bring it all down, man."
The 1960s street rabble and their ideological issue are in power. Now they can bring it all down from the inside, man.
A Marxist revolution from the top down. Cool, man.
We will not see an elected US government do this unless forced too by popular insurrection, armed forces take over, or the direction of a conquering foreign government.
The American people agree with this: spend us into prosperity with somebody else’s money.
Kelly, what in the world makes you think Oprah’s Choice is a four-year phenomenon? You must know something about the American people that I don’t.
