President George W. Bush and his family traveled to Norfolk VA today to participate in the commissioning ceremony of the George H.W. Bush (CVN 7) in Norfolk, Va. Vice President Cheney and Mrs. Cheney also attended this event.
TRANSCRIPT OF THE SPEECH THE PRESIDENT GAVE. PLEASE READ. IT IS AWESOME.
SNIFF SNIFF This was the Presidents last scheduled flight on Air Force One as the sitting president
The President delivered his weekly radio address. In Focus: Defense.
Thank you for the Dose, Daisyscarlett. I’m in Tears Looking at these Pics, and will Miss our Dear President So Much. God Bless him, his Dad and Mom, and his Family Always.
God bless Presidents Bush AND Clarence Thomas!
I watched part of the dedication today (missed the first part), but I didn’t see these veterans with their cowboy hats. How nice that they did that to honor one of their own.
When the President’s sister said to “bring the ship alive” and all those young men and women ran onto the ship, I stood there watching, crying, and clapping with no one else in the room except the dogs. They looked at me like I had lost it. I was so proud of those young people. I hope the President’s successor appreciates them as they should be.
W doesn’t put his hands in his pockets, ever. Pic 3 or 4.
I can read him, as an Austinite (my governor too) and he’s worried. Again, I’ve never seen that.
Boy, does it ever.
I still can’t envision it happening .. God help us.
Yep ... saw that. And how fitting and wonderful that he was there.
If this thread is any indication, that was happening in quite a few places across the country. The "dignitaries" seemed as awestruck as we were.
I noted that, too. There’s a pensive,
worried look as he’s leaving the Oval.
Thanks for the great photos. Just for comparison to what former President Bush used to fly off of compared to his namesake. Keep in mind the much larger modern aircraft, bomb loads, and other weapons for ship protection:
USS San Jacinto: Displacement: 11,000 tons, Length: 622.5 ft, Personnel: 1,549, Aircraft: 45
USS George H.W. Bush: Displ.: 97,000 tons, Length: 1,092 ft., Personnel: 5,680, Aircraft: 90
The new CiC is not worthy of these men and women.
Same here. I cried for our country.
I thought so too, flakie.
Fantistic pictures!
There’s been a lot of complaining about President Bush, but I have a feeling people are going to wish, very soon, that he was back in the drivers seat again!
Sometimes you just don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.
daisyscarlett: THANK YOU for posting this historic and memorable DOSE — the photos are quite simply AWESOME!

Me too. Brings back a lot of memories. My job was in the engine room of an Essex class carrier in 45.
And we had the exact same reaction as you--right down to the tears. The new CiC is not worthy of these men and women.
I know.
And I also know that WE will always stand with our heroes. ----regardless of their new "CIC".
Star, what great observations......yes, doubt will ever again see what happened today. The President must be SO proud of his Dad (I liked when 41 handed his walking stick to 43....the President, but, when all is said and done, his son)..and the Dad equally proud of his son.
and, ditto....may God always protect the men and women of CVN 77 and their missions.
Never seen him look like that.
I am very emotional also. I have sat in my chair many nights for many years going through all of the pix from the day in the life of President Bush. It is great to view them.
I have copied thousands of them to CD. I have an extensive collection of Bush memorabilia and the CDs will be added.
I expect a lost, empty feeling when he is no longer in office. I can’t believe the day is almost here. My entire family are staunch Bush supporters and always will be. They display so much compassion, inegrity, and patriotism.
God Bless the Bush family.
BamaLuvsDub from Jacksonville, Al.
for my toaster could I have pic. at post #62.
I've only ever won a few, seems impossible that the end of an era is in sight..Sad day for America, at 66 yrs. I fear for our future.
I sign off with a heavy heart...nite to ALL.
