My husband just spent 10 months in Ireland as a consultant with a US company that has a plant there...why? the tax breaks! The company could have (and would have) set up shop here but for the confisicatory corporate taxes...no jobs for US workers but plenty for Ireland

Obama KNOWS exactly what he is doing, and his objective is indeed to create the kind of government described in Atlas Shrugged.

This is not about stimulating the economy, this is making eveyone dependent on the government.

A Stalin anecdote — we are about to be plucked, as the bird described below:

http://www.rjgeib.com/thoughts/stalin/stalin.html

How To Be a Good Dictator

When Josef Stalin was on his deathbed he called in two likely successors, to test which one of the two had a better knack for ruling the country.

He ordered two birds to be brought in and presented one bird to each of the two candidates.

The first one grabbed the bird, but was so afraid that the bird could free himself from his grip and fly away that he squeezed his hand very hard, and when he opened his palm, the bird was dead.

Seeing the disapproving look on Stalin’s face and being afraid to repeat his rival’s mistake, the second candidate loosened his grip so much that the bird freed himself and flew away.

Stalin looked at both of them scornfully. “Bring me a bird!” he ordered.

They did.

Stalin took the bird by its legs and slowly, one by one, he plucked all the feathers from the bird’s little body.

Then he opened his palm. The bird was laying there naked, shivering, helpless.

Stalin looked at him, smiled gently and said, “You see... and he is even thankful for the human warmth coming out of my palm.”

I know that Obama is knows what he is doing, but it would be a powerful message, one that might not be ignored by the media, if we could flood the oval office with books.

What patriots? Come on. Nobody is gonna do one damn thing except curl up and cry. They are too invested in the corrupt socialist system. By the time the Goose is cooked it will be too late.

yes , they were really carrying on last weekend about it. A guy named Sirota was whining the same theme about having been bushwhacked on Fox, then wrote an article for Salon on the premise that “no serious scholar” could be found that believed this thesis (that FDR prolonged the depression). I and several others cited this article to rebut him.

FDR got out of a Depression the same way Hitler did. A war.

However, I’m disappointed that its conclusions have been studiously ignored even on FR.

Remember when FR was a forum of conservatives?

Also need to get this into schools. I suggest a nice, simple mailing to teachers...

Don’t use alarmist fonts, bolding, etc., and keep it short. Just a brief note that says something like, “Dear Mr. Teacher (personalize it, via mail-merge or hand-write the notes): Your students are probably curious about the current economic conditions. I thought you and your students might be interested in this analysis of the Great Depression and things that deepened the problem.” etc. Mention Lucas, and leave it at that.

Even better would be to send the original scholarly paper.

Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

That was the general myth people bought into in the 1960's and 70's. The myth has been punctured ever since.

The latest book to puncture the myth is Amity Shlaes' THE FORGOTTEN MAN.

“That was the general myth people bought into in the 1960’s and 70’s. The myth has been punctured ever since. “

Yet, Obama wants to do the same thing.

It won’t help the economy, but will help the Democrats consolidate their power.

Just read the posts, many conservatives, or so they say, are supporting Obama and wishing for “Obama’s success”, not realizing that 1. Obama’s success is the achievement of his agenda, which is socialism, and: 2. “all that is needed for evil to succeed, is for good people to do nothing

For every patriot or conservative that doesn't post or read FR there are hundreds of thousands that don't.

What exactly is his plan?? I think it goes something like this; 'We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism.Khrushchev

Democrat-controlled cities that are burdened by socialism and mired in poverty: Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1961 Buffalo, NY (2nd on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1954 Cincinnati, OH (3rd on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1984 Cleveland, OH (4th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1989 Miami, FL (5th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor ever St. Louis, MO (6th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1949 El Paso, TX (7th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor ever Milwaukee, WI (8th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1908 Philadelphia, PA (9th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1952 Newark, NJ (10th on the poverty rate list); no Republican mayor since 1907

Einstein once said: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

We are a country set upon a wicked sea without a captain. A pretender and a puppet will soon desecrate the White House and the Constitution. I will extend barry obama no grace. But I will use all the breath left in me to oppose all that he is and all that he stands for.

The economy is shutting down. The dominos are falling. It will accelerate this spring. Obama wants 3 million new jobs. With the loss of tax revenue the feds will not be able to pay entitlements. They plan to spend over a trillion on bailouts. Look this house is coming down and even if you want to do something WHAT? These socialists think there is a money tree to fund their expanding government. There ain’t. They killed the golden goose...US. The public is on thorazine and clueless.

I hope there are many more like you, to at least try to minimize and limit the damage Obama and the Democrats are set to do to the country.

Can’t this get discussed in the public, so that there is some back and forth about “stimulus policies”?

The generation that lived through the depression, raised lifelong Roosveltian Democrats, unfortunately just as we are dying off we will be replaced by Obamites.
