A Maryland grand jury on Friday indicted Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon on 12 criminal counts, including theft and perjury, for alleged official misconduct beginning when she was a councilwoman.

A number of the charges relate to gifts that prosecutors say Ms. Dixon received from developers, including her former boyfriend, Ronald Lipscomb, and didn't properly disclose. Mr. Lipscomb isn't named in the indictment but was charged with bribery this week in Baltimore. His lawyer has said he is innocent.

In addition, the Maryland prosecutor's office charged that for four years Ms. Dixon misused holiday gift cards that were intended to be distributed to needy families. Prosecutors say she gave them to members of her staff and used them to buy herself electronics and clothing.....

I particularly like that part about stealing holiday gift cards intended for the needy. Whenever Demagogues get on their high horse about how noble they are, cases like this one need to be thrown in their faces.

Here’s some more of Rohrbaugh’s laughable handiwork.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1507227/posts

Rohrbaugh allows alleged top Maryland organized crime syndicate leader Gilbert Sapperstein to walk out of Maryland State prison after approximately only 28 days of an 18 month sentence.

Nobody has ever figured out where Gilbert Sapperstein went for this approx. 28 before being set free.

Rohrbaugh feigns stupidity !!!!!!

It may be a cultural thing.

You obviously lack the proper historical perspective.

Furthermore this is discrimination or entrapment.

She is thinking “thank God for jury nullification. I better get some walk around money out into the ‘community’”

/sarc and cynicism

Yesh! But do remember, Franken and his radio cohorts were accused of taking money that were to help others.

Unfortunately, at this time, Franken has been allowed to steal the Senate Seat in MN.

Elect a Republican!

This is a state that finally elected a Republican governor (albeit a moderate) in 2003 (first since Spiro Agnew) who put the state on firmer financial ground in four years by changing a significant deficit into a surplus.

Disgusted with that result, the masters of intelligence, otherwise known as the voters of Maryland, tossed the bum out in favor of a failed mayor of Baltimore (but he had a band), who by ever measure had further deteriorated a failed city. Just the kind of guy the Murlanders like.

They also rejected Lt. Governor Michael Steele when he ran for an open U.S. Senate seat in favor of Ben Cardin. The open-minded liberal voters of the state were said to have tossed oreo cookies at Mr. Steele as he campaigned for Lt. Governor in 2003.

Of course the state is in serious financial trouble now, which evidently the good citizens prefer.

The average Murlander remains oblivious to the root cause of the deterioration of the state and like sheep to the slaughter will likely continue to support the same scumbags that have dominated the state for generations.

CULTURE OF CORRUPTION!!

The democrat party = the party of corruption. It’s breaking out all over.

I believe to be more precise we should say “Politics is corrupt.”

Where you find the money you will find criminals trying to get it. Willy Sutton should have been a politician.

In Baltimore City? There are no Republicans! They all moved to Anne Arundel County and Baltimore County!

I like having Baltimore around. It makes D.C. look better by comparison.

.... she stole holiday gift cards intended for needy families, and used them for shopping sprees for her own enjoyment.

Not exactly…

Ronald Lipscomb, a “minority” developer/general contractor with a lot of lucrative city and state contracts, “Developer A” in the Dixon indictment, was Dixon’s former boyfriend. And as I understand, they were having an extra marital affair when they first started their relationship.

Lipscomb had his employees “donate” the gift cards supposedly for needy families, but the intended recipient was always Mayor Dixon. The gifts were never intended to go to needy families – the cards were payoffs for preferential treatment by Ms. Dixon for Lipscomb’s bids and work for the city of Baltimore. Dixon and Lipscomb were “friends with benefits” and I’m not just talking about sex.

The gift cards and other gifts from Lipscomb, many of them funneled and laundered through his company, were nothing more than payoffs to Dixon starting from when she was on the City Council, to when she was City Council President and continuing after she became mayor.

While Lipscomb is not named in the Dixon indictment (but he is widely acknowledged to be “Developer A”); earlier this week, Lipscomb was indicted on a bribery charge related to payment for a political poll for City Councilwoman Helen Holton, who was also indicted.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/10/us/10baltimore.html?ref=us

City ethics laws require elected officials to disclose gifts from people doing business with the city. Mr. Lipscomb’s company, Doracon, a minority subcontractor, often works on developments that receive city tax breaks.

Here is some interesting background on Lipscomb and his political ties:

http://www.presidentsroundtable.net/member_profile/lipscomb.htm

And could Governor Martin O'Malley be part of wider investigation of corruption? I could only hope so, but then Martin is known as the “Teflon Leprechaun”.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/baltimore_city/bal-md.ci.biddle27dec27,0,1040819.story

A plan to raze a city eyesore and replace it with a gym is strangled by red tape

It seemed like a good idea then, and state lawmakers secured $800,000 in two state bond bills to pay for the gym. The administration of then-Mayor Martin O'Malley got on board, buying the building for $200,000 in taxpayer dollars in 2002, selecting Ronald H. Lipscomb as the developer. Over time the city spent an additional $411,000 - including $75,000 in state money - for studies and architectural drawings.

But nothing was ever constructed, or even demolished. Instead, neighborhood youths hang out in clumps on street corners and residents continue to scowl at a hulking brick eyesore surrounded by a rusted fence and filled with trash.

This is not about Dixon just stealing some holiday gift cards from the needy. This is a much bigger investigation about the widespread corruption regarding how city officials award contracts and tax breaks and the failure of Dixon and others in city government to disclose gifts and close personal ties with contractors bidding for work with the city.

Corruption in Baltimore city government runs very deep.

No "were said" about it. This happened at a debate at Mogen State.
