Alan Page, the former NFL star and Minnesota Supreme Court justice who will choose the panel of judges that will effectively determine the next senator of Minnesota, is a staunch critic of the controversial method used to decide which absentee ballots would be included in the recount a major complaint of GOP Sen. Norm Colemans campaign.
State law says the chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, Paul Magnuson, should appoint the three-judge panel to hear Colemans appeal. Magnuson, however, served on the Canvassing Board that issued many of the rulings that the three-member panel will be asked to review.
Anxious to avoid any apparent partiality, Magnuson has recused himself, and announced that Page would appoint the panel.

The fix is still in. It will be reviewed and re-reviewed so that they will be able to say that “See! It has been reviewed and re-reviewed”. It won’t stop unless stronger steps are taken and I don’t think they will be. Yuri Bezmanov was so prescient.
Small victory?
Whoa, he recused himself? That’s actually doing the right thing on the part of a governmental offical. . .
Coleman needs to get up on his hind legs and fight this travesty. Show us what he’s got for b....
I hope this mess gets straightened out; so that we can get back on the road to honest elections; not bought and paid for and count them only if they say I win.
“Coleman needs to get up on his hind legs and fight this travesty. Show us what hes got for b....”
So far, he exhibits only raisins.
Alan Page: Call him the thinking man's defensive tackle, a destroyer who only employed contact as a means to an end.
Alan Page never wore arm pads during his 15-year NFL career because he planned to go around blockers, not hit them.
He relied on intelligence, speed and explosive quickness to win battles in the trenches, a style that allowed him to redefine the position over a Hall of Fame career that started with the Minnesota Vikings in 1967 and ended 218 games later in Chicago.
The 6-4, 245-pound Page was thinner than most tackles, but he also was quicker and faster. The former Notre Dame star played like a linebacker in a three-point stance, an aggressive attack man who didn't need brute force to blow past a blocker.
A free-lancer within the Vikings' defensive system, Page became the centerpiece for the famed "Purple People Eaters" defense that carried Minnesota to Super Bowls after the 1969, 1973, 1974 and 1976 seasons -- all losses.
Through all of his success, the nine-time Pro Bowl selection professed a take-it-or-leave-it feeling about football and earned a law degree before finishing his career.
He also became fascinated with running and competed in marathons, a pastime that contributed to his late-career drop to 220 pounds and his 1978 breakup with the Vikings. He now is serving as an associate justice in the Minnesota Supreme Court.
Yeah I know. That’s what my comment was aimed at. Sheesh — Too many Republicans are of the same ilk.
Who will defend America, her people, and her freedoms ...
I don't know their names, but they were one eyed, one horned, and could fly...
Good question.
Karl Eller comes to mind right away. Mike Marshall?
I would be blank on the other one. No. Not Mike Marshall, that was baseball. You got me.
And the only reason these names are etched in memory is the fact that the Rams have always been my team. Way back, the Rams were on the West coast and in the same division as the Vikings. They used to have some great games, but the "Purple People Eaters" were...well...just friggin' destructive.
OK, am I mising something or just how dumb can a state supreme court chief justice be? Serving on the Canvassing Board, knowing full well there would be a court challenge to its findings now matter what the findings? Magnuson has to be a top contender for the Darwin Awards.
“Who will defend America, her people, and her freedoms ...”
Patriots. Even though they may be old and their bones creak and their muscles ache, they will give their all to save America. And I am one of them.
I respect Justice Page and I have no doubt that he will do what is legally correct.
ought-six, I am a creaky 308 myself.
You be right.
