Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Urges Income and FICA Tax Holiday as Fastest, Most Effective Stimulus Responds to Speech by President-elect Obama One of 53 Co-sponsors of H.R. 143
The fastest way to put more money in working peoples pockets and create jobs would be approving the legislation I support for a two-month holiday of personal income and FICA taxes, said Congressman Roscoe Bartlett today. People will spend their own money more wisely and more efficiently than government bureaucrats. Congressman Bartlett made the comments in response to a major economic policy speech by President-elect Barack Obama.
Congressman Bartlett said, The Congressional Budget Office has already projected a $1.2 trillion budget deficit this year. Our national debt went over $10 trillion last fall. Additional stimulus amounts range from $500 billion to $1 trillion.
We cant forget that the government doesnt have any money unless it takes it from taxpayers, noted Congressman Bartlett. History has proven that the only government policy changes that improve the economy without increasing the debt burden on our kids and grandkids would be a reduction in taxes that stimulate economic growth. Its common sense that to promote economic growth, tax cuts must go to tax payers. A FICA tax holiday will target relief to middle class workers. An income tax holiday would stimulate investment and create jobs.
Congressman Bartlett is one of 53 co-sponsors of H.R. 143 introduced by Rep. Louie Gohmert that would provide a two-month holiday of the personal income tax and FICA (Social Security) tax at an estimated cost of $350 billion. Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich support the bill.
Sign me up!
Let’s make the tax holiday on April 15th.
I found Obama's speech yesterday to be disgusting in the extreme. The notion that ONLY the government can save us should be repugnant to any American.
Lower our taxes, and unleash the genius and inventiveness of the American people. THAT is much better than giving government bureaucrats the authority to spend a trillion dollars we do not have.
Roscoe, daddy-o! How about writing off my back taxes too?
*Grin*
Obama says his primary goal is to stimulate the economy and make the USA great again by getting Americans back to work, right? Tax holidays would certainly do it for me.
Of course those are not his true intentions but it would be great to see his own phony rhetoric turned back on him, wouldn't it.
Why not a tax amnesty program?
Roscoe Rocks. We voted for him when we were stationed at Fort Detrick, Maryland. It was shocking to find anyone with even a bit of conservatism in that part of the country.
Of course this plan is great, but the socialists will say its not fair because people who don’t work won’t get anything!

The 10 trillion is misleading, too. It doesn’t count everything. The real debt is in the upper thirty trillion range.
It’s all monopoly money anyway.
I’d go for it too.
However they won’t ever do it. Once people see what they earn before uncle sugar takes it away from you, and then wants to start that back up again, you’d have a friggin revolt. They know it, and that’s why they won’t do it.
Again....both employee and employer benefit.
Roscoe still rocks. I don’t agree with him on everything but when I says something with which I don’t agree it still makes sense.
Don’t get me wrong, I am totally for it. I’d also say cut the income tax rates along with it, as long as we’re wishing for things. It sounds great to me.

Sorry. 2 months for many workers is not much difference then the 300 dollar tax rebates that did nothing to help the economy. Now make that one full year and possibly this would actually do something. The best thing the government could do to help the economy is to leave their destructive hands off of it.....
Everything the government touches gets screwed up....
a two-month holiday of the personal income tax and FICA (Social Security) tax at an estimated cost of $350 billion.
Social Security is going broke already. What would stopping payments in to it for 2 months do to it?
Yes it would benefit small business employers the most.
