Too many in Congress and the Senate appear to be there for the wrong reasons. Some have made their fortunes and now want to be a part of the most exclusive club on Earth. Some go there to enrich themselves. Some are there because they want to some day be President
We would be better served by representatives who are there AGAINST their will, who were badgered or even shamed into taking the job. In a way, Im describing what happened to George Washington. He refused the overture toward making him a monarch and he did not want a second term as President. He was persuaded by his colleagues to serve a second term because they were afraid the union might not survive without him at the time.
Its time to get representatives in DC who do not WANT the job, starting with the IL senate seat in 2010.
For those who like Mike, watch the video and sign the petition to draft Mike Ditka at the bottom of the page at http://www.MikeDitkaForSenate.com
DA BEARS!
Are you kidding me
Ditka for Senate????
Knew too much of this man when he was a coach for the new orleans saints. This man is a classless asshat. I would not vote for him to be janitor of circle k. If he is a conservative, I do not care.
Warns against the party system.
It serves to distract the Public Councils, and
enfeeble the Public Administration. agitates the
Community with ill-founded jealousies and false
alarms; kindles the animosity of one.. against
another.. it opens the door to foreign influence
and corruption.. thus the policy and the will of
one country are subjected to the policy and will
of another.
Stresses the importance of religion and morality.
Where is the security for property, for reputation,
for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert
the oaths, which are the instruments of investigation
in Courts of Justice?
On stable public credit.
...cherish public credit.
One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly
as possible.. avoiding likewise the accumulation of
debt.. it is essential that you...bear in mind, that
towards the payments of debts there must be Revenue,
that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes
can be devised, which are not.. inconvenient and
unpleasant...
Warns against permanent foreign alliances.
It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent
alliances with any portion of the foreign world...
“This man is a classless asshat.”

I repectfully disagree with your critique of Coach Ditka.
Doesn’t calling a man a “classless asshat” kind of detract from the credibility of the person making the acusation? Is that language demonstrative of one whom should be regarded as an authority on “class”?
Thanks for the quote HuntsvilleTXVeteran. I love the Farewell Address myself. You can tell it was penned by Hamilton. Good stuff.
This Packer Fan has only ONE thing to say:
The Bears Still Suck Polka
Written by J.Krueger-sung by OTTO (The Happy Schnapps Combo)
How many times must we take this disgrace
Another Bears fan throwing insults in our face
The Packers are the greatest team to ever play the game
Even if from time to time they’ve been a little lame
How could you ever love a team with Jim McMahon
Not even Porky Pig was as big a ham
They got a reputation that’s mostly based on luck
The Bears
Still
Suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears
Still
Suck
If you drive to Soldier Field they make you pay a toll
For cripes sake they only won one lousy Super Bowl!!
They make fun of Wisconsin, but we don’t get upset
Where do you think that they’re all headed every chance they get?
We don’t really hold a grudge ‘cause this is all in fun
As far as football rivalries we’re both number one
Still we wouldn’t mind seeing Ditka run over by a truck
‘Cause the Bears
Still
Suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears
Still
Suck
(All the ladies now) The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears
Still
Suck
(Everybody now) The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
The Bears still suck, the Bears still suck
They really really really really really really suck
Yes the Bears
Still
Suck

Not that Ditka isn’t a nice guy and all but....seriously?
This is the only option in Illinois? There are no actual elected officials which any credentials worthy of moving up?
This is like California or NY where the only answer seems to consistenly be ‘get us a celebrity’ to solve the Blue State problem.
...classless asshat...”Please explain.
I’d bet any money that Ditka wouldn’t blush at any language Rahm Emanuel or Rod Blago uses.

Okay, WE GOT IT. You want Dikta. He'd probably be a good candidate because he's one of the few Republicans who would win votes to win over a large chunck of Chicago votes. But that doesn't mean he's the ONLY option we have in Illinois, or that he's the BEST person we could run.
Alot of us wanted Dikta in 2004, too. He let alot of us down by flirting with the possibility of running for a few weeks and then bailing suddenly, leaving Obama to coast to election easily as the GOP scrambled to find someone else.
Drafting Ditka in 2004 was a good option when the ILGOP was in disarray and we needed a candidate to step up to the plate and jump in RIGHT AWAY after the media and the RINOs destroyed Jack Ryan. But in case you missed the news, publius, there's NOT going to be a special election in 2009 and it seems almost certain that Roland Burris will be seated as Obama's replacement, which means NO election until the seat is normally up for re-election in November 2010. Which in turn means we're in no rush to "draft" a candidate RIGHT AWAY for this seat and have a YEAR to evaluate our options and pick the best person.
If Dikta wants to make the case he's the guy, then go for, run. I'm not going to BEG him to run, he had his chance in 2004. In the meantime there a lot of good candidates who have time to enter the race: Congressman Peter Roskam, Congressman Aaron Schock, State Senator Lauzen, to name a few outstanding conservative leaders in Illinois. As long as the the GOP doesn't run another clueless RINO like Steve Sauerberg or an Democrat in disguise like Mark Kirk, I'll be satisfied.
In the meantime, lay off the "we gotta have Dikta RIGHT NOW" vanities. By constantly hyping him, you're actually annoying Illinois freepers than getting us all in his corner.
If someone is interested in making a difference RIGHT NOW, may I remind this forum that FR's own "Chicagolady" is collecting signatures to run in the special for Rahm Emanuel's vacant seat. She could use some donations and volunteers.

Gary Alan Sinise
Born: March 17, 1955 (1955-03-17) (age 53) Blue Island, Illinois, U.S.A.
Sinise was born in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of Millie and Robert L. Sinise, who was a film editor.[1] He is of part Italian ancestry.[2] He attended Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois, and continued his education at Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois. In 1974, Sinise and two friends, Terry Kinney and Jeff Perry, founded the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.[3] Since its founding, Steppenwolf has showcased the talents of such notable actors as Kevin Anderson, Joan Allen, Gary Cole, Glenne Headly, John Malkovich, Jim True-Frost and Laurie Metcalf. At Steppenwolf, Sinise honed his acting and directing skills and worked on more than thirty of the company's productions.
Sinise has won an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for Palme d’Or and an Academy Award. In 1992, Sinise directed the film and played the role of George Milton in the movie adaption of Of Mice and Men. Sinise was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 for his role as Lieutenant Dan Taylor in Forrest Gump. He won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for his role in Truman. In 1996, he played a corrupt police officer in the Ron Howard dramatic hit Ransom. In 1998, Sinise was awarded an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for the television film George Wallace, a portrayal of the late Governor George C. Wallace, Jr., of Alabama. He currently stars in CBS’s CSI: NY as Detective Mac Taylor.
Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal by George W. Bush for work he did supporting the U.S Military and humanitarian work supporting Iraqi children. [5]
Personal life
Sinise has been married to actress Moira Harris since 1981 and they have three children together: Sophia Ana (b. 1988), McCanna Anthony (b. 1990), and Ella Jane (b. 1992). In 2003, Sinise was awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters by Amherst College.[6]
Politics
Sinise has conservative Republican leanings. His CSI:NY co-star Hill Harper, a supporter of then Democratic Presidential candidate and Illinois Senator Barack Obama, has noted that Sinise’s political beliefs are much more conservative (than Harper's) but also says he and Sinise get along with each other on set and have decided not to discuss politics.
He recently narrated a biography for Navy Seal and Medal of Honor recipient Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor at the Republican National Convention in support of John McCain's candidacy for President of the United States of America.
In December 2008 he was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal, the second highest civilian medal awarded to U.S. civilians. He received the medal from President George W. Bush for his humanitarian contributions to Iraqi school children and his involvement in the USO.
I dunno. maybe you should ask the Harrah’s Casino pit boss whose face Mike Ditka flicked his lit cigar into when he lost. Maybe you should ask all the saints fans he flipped the middle finger to as he walked off the field. Maybe you should ask the sports reporters who tried to ask him legit questions regarding the team and got cursed out by him as an answer. I respectfully disagree with disagreement of my critique. It’s accurate, he’s a classless asshat, and I stand by my assessment.
See post # 18 for explanation.
If Posting #18 is accurate, than Ditka isn’t the right man to recruit. Gary Sinise would be interesting, but I haven’t seen any evidence he wants a career in politics.
