Kicking cars and punching cops: Highlights from Gaza Protest Arrests
The Miami New Times ^ | January 07, 2009 | Natalie O'Neill

An 18 year-old from Coral Springs was busted for wielding brass knuckles and a pocket knife, a petite middle-aged woman shouted "baby killers!," and a mob of protesters chucked rocks at a cop car. The Israeli-Palestinian protest Sunday on Biscayne Boulevard was a loud, colorful microcosm of hate - with Muslims waving red and green Palestinian flags on one side of the boulevard, and Jews holding hand-penned signs on the other. As the Herald reported yesterday, a dozen people were arrested, mostly for disorderly conduct.

What wasn't mentioned: The most serious charge (a felony battery) came from a bright, well-respected Bonita Springs doctor and director of a non-profit named Riadh Atmani. The Miami police report notes that the 42 year-old - a bearded, six-foot-five, 220 pound bear of a man - grabbed a police officer "and his prisoner," pulled them into a pack of protesters, "hit [the cop] in the face" and "broke the sergeant's glasses." Shortly afterwards, around 3:20 p.m., police described his demeanor as calm and soft spoken. Public records show Atmani runs Bonita Springs Islamic Center on Bonita Beach Road, about which little information is available. (He couldn't be reached at several listed phone numbers for comment.)

Other highlights from police reports include: A 31 year-old from Jordan who allegedly tried to ignite a riot, then called a cop a "n****r"; a 23 year-old car-kicker from Kuwait, and a New Yorker who threw one too many punches in amid a mosh pit of demonstrators.

As of yesterday - the tenth day of what Israeli leaders dubbed "an all-out war" -- the Palestinian death toll had reached 550 and the Israeli toll hit 30. Israeli leaders have rebuffed recent peace efforts, and continue to launch air strikes as a response to rockets fired by Hamas, the militant group that rules Gaza. (Unfortunately, for both sides, that has meant taking out civilians who are in the way.)

Like Atmani, at least eleven other Miami protesters found themselves so wound up from this past week's events, that they ended up in cuffs. In South Florida, it looks like the war is hitting home.

So why isn’t it labeled hate speech?

This is like the stuff we see on TV in muslim countries. I can’t believe that this is happening in the USA. We’ve let way to many Arabs in our country.

So what do you think about the blacks who are rioting in Oakiland, CA, over an alleged charge of police brutality?

IMO The Marxist Onada’s President will embolden all sorts of groups with a bone to pick to take to the streets.

In any case, Marxists always benefit from chaos because they tend to be better organized than everyone else. Creating or abetting chaos is a major Marxist tactic.

I wonder. There once was a Said Atmani, deported from Canada and served with the Mujahideen Brigade in Bosnia....

Thanks for the post. I didn't realize that 12 pro-Hamas demonstrators were arrested in Miami. In fact, that's the first I've heard of any arrests of these animals anywhere in the US. Good news. Hopefully there will be prosecutions and convictions.

Note that it took three days before the local MSM (Miami Herald) reported it.

I'm amazed that this is happening in our country.

Blame it on the Kennedy brothers, who pushed through the drastic change in the immigration law in 1965. That allowed a stampede of Muzzie immigrants from the Middle East. You are seeing some of the results of that now.

Our Liberal-infested judicial system and government will reward Muslim terrorists not send them to jail. Remember, we have a closet Muslim President-elect. Muslim is in as well as being an anti-Semite.

Indeed.
Ot would behove Jews in the West to oppose Muslim immigration. In 2004, Stephen Steinlight, a former Director of National Affairs at the American Jewish Committee and current fellow at the Center for Immigration Studies made this point. http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/steinlight2.html Sadly, blinded by grievance politics, my co-religionists support their own demographic dhimmitude.

Remember, we have a closet Muslim President-elect.

I don't know if you could call him a "closet Muslim" but you could say that he was raised as a Muslim as a youngster and he has exhibited personal affinity for some Islamist radical types in Chicago. It all adds up to legitimate concern within the American Jewish community for the future, especially among Jewish conservatives.

Our liberal-infested judicial system and government will reward Muslim terrorists and not send them to jail.

It remains to be seen what kind of penalties those arrested in Miami will receive. Although those arrested are charged with relatively minor crimes, it would seem as if there eventually will be much more serious street violence as the Islamists within the US continue to demonstrate over the Israel-Gaza conflict. And, yes, the election of Obama has made them more brazen than they otherwise would have been.

Sadly, blinded by grievance politics, my co-religionists support their own demographic dhimmitude.

Obviously, not all Jews support an immigration policy that leads to dhimmitude. I must admit that I do not understand the mindset of the Jewish left on the immigration issue. Grievance politics? What on earth is their grievance that they'd rather pursue it and be annihilated by Islamofascists?

Grievance politics? What on earth is their grievance that they'd rather pursue it and be annihilated by Islamofascists?
2000 years of varying degrees of oppression. They believe that Christianity is oppressive to them, and therefor hate everything Christian, even those things shared by true Jews and Christians.
They see themselves as a minority in constant opposition to the minority. The imagined threat of the majority was created largely in the 17th century Khmelnytsky Uprising, which culminated in the massacres of Jews in Lithuania Poland. At that moment Ukrainian nationalism was built on hatred of Jews, at least as much as a desire to be independent from Lithuania-Poland. In the 19th century, despite there being millennium old Jewish populations, many central European nationalisms were openly anti-Jewish. Although anti-nationalism, Naziism is often seen as the culmination of this. The result was reflexive anti-majoritarian hysteria and equally refelxive support for minorities and immigration.
The final grievence was the 1923 immigration act, which set quotas on immigration, effectively enidng Jewish migration to the US. Along with intentional minuse of these quotas by antisemites in the State Department, the results was that Jews were unable to escape the looming Holocaust. This is partially a myth, and it ignores the difference between immigrants and refugees. Nonethless, grievence politics is not about facts, but emotions. Hence, Jews support immigration, despite all logic.

As I wrote at View from the Right

Grievance politics unites disparate minorities in unthinking opposition to the majority, even against rational self interest. The politics of grievance is an unthinking ersatz ethnic loyalty, wherein one defines oneself in opposition, rather than in being. It leads Jews to support political correctness, immigration of Muslims, and Third Worldism, even though these are all against their rational self interest as an Americans or as a Jews. It leads black leaders to support immigration, liberal social politics, and objectively failing education and social models. And this doesn't just apply to minorities in the West. Grievence politics in the form of anti-colonialism allows the South African regime to support Mugabe's starvation of fellow Africans in the once prosperous Zimbabwe. This minority nihilism will go on as long as the white West allows it to. We must stand up against it not only for our own survival, but also to save those afflicted with this illness. If the majority in America or the West does so, it will allow the rational loyal members of minorities to be heard. But first the civilizational AIDS of liberalism with its control of the media must be destroyed. Imagine if the media went to Thomas Sowell instead of Jesse Jackson, or Don Feder instead of Abe Foxman. The failure is not only of the Irish, Jews, Blacks, Hispanics. It is that of the English and WASPs.

I don’t consider the zeitgeist of grievance politics to be particular profound. Still, I gave it some thought while walking home. I came across a drunk, who was trying to justify his public intoxication based on alienation from the season. No one said, “Get over it” or, “Stop being a kill joy.” Instead, people gave him sympathy and even offered free drinks.

It then occurred to me that my point was incomplete. Instead of causing growth through pain, we have allowed past oppression to be infantilizing. At its core, grievance politics is adolescent behavior. It is a mixture of finding virtue in being oppressed or having been oppressed, certitude in current virtue, a desire for unquestioned compensation and revenge. Prior to the 1950s, when faced with this, the West considered it sophomoric or the self-justifications of criminals. For instance few in the West fell for the Japanese claims of anti-colonialism in their push for the Great East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. Perhaps some Communists, libertarians, and antediluvian conservatives allowed themselves to be taken in, if only because they needed to assign blame to FDR and virtue to the Japanese.

Sometime around the 1960s this died. Snotty teenagers, hippies, Black Panther, American Indian activist, MECHA, etc. were viewed as virtuous because of their anger and indignation. Accountability became a fault, and unthinking generosity and even enabling became the virtue.
