Christie makes it official: He wants Gov. Corzines job
By Cynthia Burton
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Former U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie is running for New Jersey governor in the Republican primary, he told supporters in a widely circulated e-mail this morning.
As U.S. Attorney between 2002 and his resignation last month, Christie, 46, secured guilty pleas or convictions from more than 130 elected and appointed officials.
Establishment Republicans have long hoped the Mendham, Morris County, resident would be their 2009 gubernatorial candidate, bringing star power to the party, which has not won a statewide election since former Gov. Christie Whitman's 1997 re-election race.
Even before Christie's confirmation that he would run, Burlington County Republican Chairman Bill Layton personally endorsed Christie.

Is he any good? Anyone familiar with him? He certainly couldn't be worse than Corzine.

I know absolutely nothing about Christopher Christie.
Given that, I still know he is better than Corzine.

What a brilliant comment. /s/
Christie has indicted and brought to trial well over one hundred crooked politicians. ALL CONVICTED

Very interesting. Christie will make a great candidtate. Corzine is an unpopular democrat governor of New Jersey and the head of a corrupt government who barely spends anytime in the state as he is far too busy doing other things. Oh, and he make his moola on the same Wall Street that he now decries as being for the “fat cats.”
I therefore predict that Corzine should win going away. New Jersey is lost and seems to like it that way. Moving right along then.

Doesn't matter. Remember, this is NJ, aka, ‘Ratland. Any GOP candidate for Governor is likely a sacrificial lamb. This is an electorate that put a deviant pervert ‘Rat in the Governor's chair, and when he got caught with his jimmy out they turned around and just elected another ‘Rat.

He should remain where he is and continue indicting Democrat mayors and county execs. (700+ municipalities; 21 counties . . . lots to keep him busy.)

I just came here to see if the next sacrificial lamb for the New Jersey Democratic machine’s first name was “Whitman”.

He should remain where he isAll US Attorneys around the country are about to be replaced by Obama appointees, he can't remain.
To: Carley
For that, he is deserving of much thanks. But I hope this guy isn’t another Bill Weld.

Ah, goodie, another establishment liberal RINO piggie/illegal apologist. Yeah, great, Christie Whitman is back, and this time (s)he is wearing pants. Why is there even a Republican party anymore in NJ if they’re going to continue putting up embarrassments like this for office ?

Steve Lonigan should easily beat him in the GOP primary and might even beat corzine.

The phrase "establishment Republicans" in NJ politics means liberals who are slightly less corrupt than the Democrats.
This guy will have to convince me he's more than that if he wants my vote.

Steve made kissy-face with the gay mafia in NJ. Sorry, can't vote for him, either.

Very wishful thinking.
Tom Wilson, NJ GOP chairman, is a dastardly RINO!
He will ensure that Lonigan is pushed aside during the primary. Or, if by some chance Lonigan does win the primary, Wilson will campaign for the Democrats like he and other RINOs did when Bret Schundler was running against sleezy McGreevy.
