Youtube video in link.
Later
"He should've armed himself, then..."
What did you expect. You can’t shoot him in the arm.
Good post. That’s funny.
I would like to see how you arm yourself with three cops holding you down.
There will be an investigation, and I'd be surprised if the findings conclude something different.
I don’t understand what happened. He doesn’t appear to be struggling with the officers or any sort of threat to them, however without sound and from the less that clear images it’s difficult to tell. I predict this is not going to go well for the police.
The leading theory in the Bay Area news reports is that the cop thought he was grabbing for his taser but somehow came up with his pistol. This is reinforced by the surprised reaction of the cop who did the shooting (if the link above is to the complete video. I can’t see youtube from here.)
There is much more to this story, no telling what was said by the deceased to the officers, no telling what he was attempting to do with his hands either which started the struggle.
Maybe the officers had reason to believe he was armed, maybe an officer felt what he thought was a gun and the deceased began reaching for it, thats when the struggle started and then an officer fearing for their safety fired.
Remember the courts have said that officers do not have to await the glint of steel to be in fear of life or limb.
I would like to see what the trial says, first. We don’t know all the testimony, or the officers’ statements.
All I see is the cops being hung by the mob.
well, they couldn’t shoot him in the arms
I can’t believe I get to be the first one to say this twice in one week:
It was an obvious suicide.
All I see is the cops being actually caught on video. I hope the cops reports don’t go edited.
Not well at all. The direct video looked pretty much like the cops put him on the ground then executed him.
Thanks for posting this.
Frightening. Didn’t look to me that with that many police standing around the suspect with the suspect on the ground, I don’t see how the officer who drew the gun and shot the suspect in the head could have been justified in his action.
The people who took the two separate cell phone videos will be giving them to the attorney representing the victims family, so it should be a very interesting court case.
video cameras everywhere / everyone with a video camera cell phone and Internet information distribution outlets like Youtube now make it a lot harder for people who screw up to get away with it...
If you mean suicide by cop, then yes it seems to be becoming a common occurrence.
BART PD isn’t the same as OPD, for sure, but I heard that in Oakland recruiting standards are such that documentation showing former membership in a street gang is NOT grounds for precluding an OPD candidate from employment there:
You can be an ex-gang member, but later go on to become a cop in Oakland, I heard.
Looks like the cops deserve to be hung. That looks like outright murder by cop.
