Caroline Appointment: Mitchell Mimics Maureen in Mocking Al D'Amato By Mark Finkelstein | January 7, 2009 - 15:19

Does Maureen Dowd moonlight at MSNBC as Andrea Mitchell's [file photo] writer? Here's how for, purposes of defending Caroline Kennedy in her NYT column today, Dowd mocked former New York Republican Senator Al D'Amato [emphasis added]:

[B]elieve me, she talks a whole lot better than the former junior senator from New York, Al D’Amato, who once wailed that he was “up to my earballs” in some mess, and another time complained to me that those “little Jappies” bring over boats full of cars and then take the boats back empty.

Now check out Mitchell's comments made during her 1 PM time slot on MSNBC today:

At least Alfonse knows “Putz” when he sees one.

He was never more eloquent as far as I am concerned.

Maureen wishes she could spend the night with a stud like D’Amato...

Come on Dowd, let Big Al introduce you to the Big O.

Try it, you’ll like it.

Well, uh, ya know, the notion that somehow democrats like Obama, Biden, uh, Clinton and now, uh, Kennedy need to somehow be, uh, articulate, I think has time and time, uh, proven to be, uh..........and, uh, ya know, I've said that all through this campaign.

Al D’Amato at no time sounded as dumb as Caroline Kennedy.

MSNBC is beyond a joke!

A conservative should get a job there posing as a lib and then write a book.

Trying to use the past occasional inarticulateness of Al D'Amato, a hard-working 3-term Republican Senator from New York who has been out of office for a decade as a rationale to excuse Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg's lack of poise and ability to deliver a cogent message, much less, answer legitimate political questions, shows the absolute desperation of the Manhattan Park Avenue cocktail party set that are openly rooting for a Kennedy Family aristocrat to replace her Uncle Ted, who, in all likelihood, will be forced to resign his seat as he battles brain cancer.

Caroline Kennedy has no business being in the U.S. senate and would probably be a totally useless representative of the vast majority of New York state residents. She would be there because her name is 'Kennedy' and her father and uncle were assassinated, many years ago.

Truth be told, I doubt Caroline even wants the job, but is 'stepping up' at the request of Uncle Ted and the N.Y. Democrat establishment. Unfortunately for Caroline, her embarrassing inarticulateness, considering her fine education and years around the glib politicians in her family, have spotlighted the inescapable fact that she is stunningly unprepared for the high political appointment she seeks. By contrast, Alaska Governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin looks positively Churchillian.

This cheer-leading and strained defense of Caroline Kennedy from the leftmedia is ironic, considering the liberals have spent the last eight years ridiculing and mocking President Bush for his inarticulateness. Pot, Kettle, Black.

I can vividly rememrber the frequent verbal pauses of her father, the revered JFK. “I, er, ah, never said this or I ,er, ah think that. Of course those endearing mannerisms would cause Andrea Mitchell to wet her pants.

What a GREAT idea!

One would have to go in as a secretary or some sort of assistant. And one would have to have had a low profile politically before then. AND one would have to be able to hold one’s tongue (I would be disqualified on that count).

But it is a grand idea, and I hope some enterprising writer takes it up!
