Revolt! Robbed of their right to buy traditional light bulbs, millions are clearing shelves(UK)

Millions of Britons are finally waking up to the fact that their beloved light bulb will disappear for good after 120 years. Traditional 100-watt bulbs are vanishing from the High Street because of a controversial European Union decision. Yesterday panic buyers were snapping up the remaining bulbs in a last-ditch attempt to stockpile the final supplies. Hundreds of leading supermarkets and DIY chains - including Sainsbury's, Asda and Homebase - have already sold their last remaining bulbs after a surge in panic buying. Other stores say they have enough stocks to last until the end of next week. The supplies are running out after the Government signed up to an EU decision to replace conventional 100w light bulbs with supposedly greener low energy alternatives. Ministers claim the switch will reduce carbon dioxide by around five million tons each year. But experts have questioned whether or not the new bulbs, far from being environmentally friendly, are actually harmful. The low-energy fluorescent bulbs can trigger skin rashes, migraines and epilepsy.

And how do you dispose of them when they do burn out? When the govt finally tells the people they are hazerdous waste ad can not be thrown in the garage, how do you suppose people are going react?

The low-energy fluorescent bulbs can trigger skin rashes, migraines and epilepsy.

I have epilepsy and must use not only regular bulbs, but full-spectrum bulbs especially in the winter.

They needn’t worry.

Once the UK becomes a “sharia state” (see the previously posted article here at FR) I doubt there will be electricity in the country for very long.

I’ll use mine for target practice. But then, I don’t live in the UK.

Those compact flourescent bulbs have caused me to have migraines before. I refuse to use them.

Think for a moment...

are there any aspects of life unrelated to sexual behavior in which the left actually supports freedom?

Looks like you'll need a doctor's prescription soon! :=(

Hey, cool!

With a prescription and socialized medicine, his/her lightbulbs will be FREE!

Never had a CFL last a year--the shortest lasted two months in a subzero outdoor environment. For my applications, they are too expensive to save me any money.

I, too, am stocking up on incandescents. Unless Congress comes to its senses, this will happen here, too. Our mandate is coming up.

As an American, I’ve been stockpiling them, too.

I found a discount store here in the Northeast that had a display of four (4) 100 watt GE lightbulbs in a package. The price: 50 cents a package, or 12.5 cents per bulb.

I bought the entire display, and I’m only just starting.

You can have my light bulbs after you’ve gotten all my ammunition.

I will keep buying incandescent light bulbs as long as I can. I'm not changing to fit the enviro wackos idea of how to light my home!

I store as much as I can, but lack of space prohibits. I’ll go to CCrane http://www.ccrane.com/lights/led-light-bulbs/index.aspx buy LEDs before I put in florencents.
