Barack Obama, who takes over as U.S. president from George W. Bush on January 20, broke his silence about the violence in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, calling the loss of civilian lives in Gaza and in Israel a "source of deep concern for me."
Obama added he would adhere to his principle that only Bush should be the voice of U.S. foreign policy at this time but he would have plenty to say after his inauguration in two weeks.
Nonetheless, Obama said that he is "not backing at all from what I've said during the campaign we're going to engage effectively and consistently in the peace process."
"We've got plenty to say about Gaza, and on January 20, you'll hear directly from me," he added.
Meanwhile, the United States on Tuesday signaled some flexibility over Israel's offensive on the Gaza Strip, saying it would like to see "an immediate ceasefire" but emphasizing any such agreement must be durable, sustainable and indefinite.
U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack also said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's trip to the United Nations on Tuesday was designed to show that the United States was open a variety of ways to achieve a cease-fire. "We would like an immediate cease-fire, absolutely," McCormack told reporters, speaking after Israeli tank shells killed at least 40 Palestinians at a United Nations school where civilians had taken shelter. "An immediate cease-fire that is durable, sustainable and not time-limited."

Exactly.
I'm offended by all the concern about civilians killed. wounded by Israelis from people who didn't give a flip when our civilians were attacked and killed INTENTIONALLY!
There ya' go!
I’m sure that’s exactly what 0 is hopiing: the war has “ended” by then so he can still say nothing.
Gosh golly, I didn't know this useful and extremely important piece of information.
Is that the Black guy who was running for President?
Embarrassing loser.
What comes out of the sock puppet depends on whose hand’s up his ass.

What? No official word from the Official Office of the President-Elect?
Simply put ... America’s President elect is a loose cannon.
All I know is he said "hear directly from me." That's a promise and this true believer is leaving the light on, the cookies and milk on the table, and the empty egg basket by the door.
More likely than not, this was a statement to the World. Expect peels of thunder, a partitioning of the heffalumps, and a miraculous and awesome Bud Light to appear in the sky. It'll be like the curtain going up and there stands Vegas Elvis, Little Richard, James Brown, KISS, and Prince the artist / not the artist, Sinatra, and MAYBE Tina in her prime, all rolled into one. A LOT of people will faint and get free bottled water.
And then he'll raise his hands and be a saying something real impotent. (/s)
“We would like an immediate cease-fire, absolutely,”
yeah absolutely...once we get rid of all of Hamas.
Obama’s words ... a cryptic “hear directly from me.”
Is this going to be in a future Gospel, from The New Messiah?
I don’t know about everyone else, but I for one, am sick and tired of the carnage in the ME. It has gone on my whole life. Newsflash ME - get your sh*t together already. The Israeli’s made a “miscalculation” and bombed a school today - lots of dead children. This whole situation is, and continues to be, a total abomination on both sides.
Nobama scares me to death but in this instance I think he’s doing the right thing. We have one president at a time.
By Jove, I think you may be right!
It will be transcribed from the . . .
“Zed Sees Scrolls?”
“You Just Wait and See Scrolls?”
“I’ll have a Cigarette and one of those Sweet Rolls?”
“From a future Gospel as yet to be hoped and changed.”
OSSBAMA babbles?
He votes present better than anyone has voted present before.
I'm with you on this. Nothing he could say would be constructive at this point. Give him credit. He's wise to keep his mouth shut.
Sometimes it is wiser to say nothing and look stupid than to open one’s mouth and confirm it.
Yep! And if you're looking for a real scare, try Ezekiel 38.
