Richard Dawkins launches 'There is no God' adverts on buses across Britain
The Times (U.K.) / Various ^ | January 6, 2009 | Ruth Gledhill

Posted on 01/06/2009 10:20:23 AM PST by Stoat

The campaign was conceived by Ariane Sherine, a comedy writer who dreamed of just one bus going around London with an atheist slogan after she saw a similar advertisement for Christianity on the back of a bus.

I'm very glad that you're not in charge of our legal system.

There are some stories that end in death AND have a happy ending ... such as a burglar fatally shot by a homeowner.

Former Ma. governor Mike Dukakis once pushed through legislation that the homeowner had to flee his own house ... I like my ending better.

I didn’t say that he told a lie. I said that he told an untruth.

Quoting from your post (#52):

"His lie is told in the interest of "unity".

My denial of the unity of all of the world’s religions is an uncomfortable statement to make in the politically correct world. All cultures are NOT equal.

He simply said that all religions pray to the same God. This may or may not be true, but there's not way to objectively know. It's not a "historic falsehood", it's simply an opinion.

The statement you quoted makes no comment about the relative equalities of various cultures, only about the ultimate destination of prayers.

I don't have the slightest problem with a homeowner killing a burglar. I encourage it.

What does this have to do with the fact that you applaud the beating of a professor because you don't like his religious point of view?

"Probably"? This would be funny if it wasn't influencing young (and some old) skulls full of mush. Then again, if this gets the spiritually wishy-washy of the dime, then it could serve a useful purpose. Boats going in the wrong direction can be turned around. It's the drifting boats that are dead in the water.

Revelation 3:16

So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Blah blah blah blah blah.

Welcome to FR.

Islam comes from a moongod. Not the God of Judeo-Christians. And Buddism, Hinduism, etc. have totally separate (and polytheistic) traditions.

It would be better to be faithful to one's conscience, than to feign belief, in anticipation of some imagined reward.

What if that made them "happy"? If it feels good, do it, right?

Indeed, how could anything really be "better" than anything else, if everything reduces to matter in motion?

Atheism is one gigantic reductionist error.

I guess I should also point out that Manson is not in jail for killing anyone. He didn’t even enter the homes in the Tate/LaBianca murders.

Bugliosi concocted a conspiracy theory in which Manson “programmed” an eleborate drama constructed around the Beatles’ White Album to bring about “Helter Skelter”. Without the conspiracy charge, he wouldn’t have been able to pin charges on Charlie.

These days Vincent is making the case that GW Bush should be charged with murder. The man is a loon.

You confuse desire with conscience.

No.

It's just the inability to believe in fantasies.

So did Nietzsche. How many did he kill?

His do-unto-others-then-split philosophy has heavily influenced modern schooling. Just look at college and university curricula today. At the very least, his me-first nihilism has contributed to the global slaughter of countless pre-born children.

GG: What is sin?

OBAMA: Being out of alignment with my values.

That is not an ill-considered statement, and it should send a shiver down the spine of anyone with half a brain.

How insecure does someone have to be to launch an ad campaign proclaiming the non-existence of something?

Exactly. What is it with atheists (and vegetarians) where they feel compelled to let everyone know that they're an atheist? (Or vegetarian.)

I have yet to meet an atheist or vegetarian who isn't all "Look at meeeeee" about it.

I do? What's different about conscience?

If conscience reduces to my own beliefs, why can't I change it?

If you thought Nietzsche was an idiot, and if your cousin took your lead, and not only thought Nietzsche was an idiot; but went ahead and killed him for thinking that he was an idiot, are you to blame for Nietzsche’s death, or your cousin?

Welcome to FR.

Thank you.

Islam comes from a moongod. Not the God of Judeo-Christians.

The three primary Abrahamic religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. They're certainly related to one another.

And Buddism, Hinduism, etc. have totally separate (and polytheistic) traditions.

I agree. This does not preclude someone (such as President Bush) from believing that all prayers ultimately reach the same God.
