Tough Kenyan Media Bill signed into law

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has signed into law a media Bill that journalists say will curtail press freedom.

According to a BBC News report, the law gives the Kenyan authorities the power to raid media offices, tap phones and control broadcast content on grounds of national security. Kibaki said he had carefully considered the concerns but added that press freedom 'must go hand in hand with responsibility'. He said the Bill was crucial for Kenya's economic development. Kibaki added that regulating the electronic media would promote and 'safeguard our culture, moral values and nationhood'. The Standard reports that condemnation of the move continues to grow with some critics predicting that radio and TV stations that are seen to be critical of the government will be shut down. The International Commission on Jurists (ICJ) said Kibaki had reversed all the democratic gains fought for over two decades. 'We are concerned that section 88 can now be used any time to suppress the media. We are asking the media fraternity and Kenyans of good will to relentlessly push for the repeal of the section no matter what it takes,' said ICJ chairman Wilfred Nderitu.

WOW. No prizes for guessing why this happened, ay.

UNBELIEVABLE. The United States has been surreptitiously and by stealth been colonized by Kenya.

Who’dathunkit? Never in a million years.

That's what it looks like to me, too. Odinga, Bambi's cousin, the would-be dictator who forced himself into power by way of a previously unheard-of joint presidency when he lost the actual presidential election, is over here strutting about for all the world like he owns the place (this place, that is). It really makes me sick to look at these people and to think that somehow our country has been taken over by a third-world pit whose big contribution to the world was the Mau Mau. I sure never woulda thunk it.

Yes, but the majority of the American people wanted the inexperienced Magic Negro in charge. Who promised them that he would redistribute the wealth. Well, guess what; we who were making the wealth are no longer doing so. Where , pray, is he gonna come up with their mortgage payments, car payments, etc.?????

Like Odinga or any third-world thug, the only car payments, mortgages, etc. Barry is worried about are his own. He will do very nicely on being president. The other promises - like those made by any third-world thug, such as his cousin - are rabble-rousing stuff to get the popular support necessary to make sure that the cash and power stay in his hands with as little effort as possible on his part.

Of course, the implication in this rabble rousing strategy is always that the poor fools, the rabble, that follow the dictator will get goodies too - distributed to them freely after being taken away forcibly from their current owners. (Of course, the goodies do get taken away, but somehow they never make it to the rabble, hence the devastating famines of Africa.)

Let the good times roll!
