Ohio State, Texas still with plenty to prove in Fiesta Bowl
ESPN.com ^ | January 4, 2009 | Mark Schlabach

Ohio State and Texas both had dreams of playing for a BCS National Championship this season.

The Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the country for three weeks this season, until losing at Texas Tech 39-33 on Michael Crabtree's winning touchdown catch with one second to play Nov. 1 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas.

Even after that loss, Texas believed it still deserved to play for the Big 12 championship because of its 45-35 victory over Big 12 South foe Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas on Oct. 11.

Instead, the Sooners won the Big 12 South's complicated tiebreaker over Texas and Texas Tech, and then blasted Missouri 62-21 in the Big 12 championship game in Kansas City on Dec. 6.

The No. 1 Sooners will play No. 2 Florida for the BCS National Championship on Thursday night in Miami.

The No. 3 Longhorns are still hoping for a split national championship. They'll probably have to beat No. 10 Ohio State soundly in Monday night's Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium to have any chance. Even then, Texas' chances of finishing No. 1 in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll seem slim at best.

Texas will win.

Um, no. You should stick to porn instead of predicting scores. :O)

Shouldn't be a problem. Ohio State is not that good.

alabama - “Utah shouldn’t be a problem, they’re not that good”..made up quote, but the idea is the same..you gotta play the game..

doesn’t matter who’s better, it’s who has more points when time runs out..

That said, Texas 27, OS 21..

The team with the highest total points.

Unless the democrats are keeping score. Then they'll keep recounting the points until their favorite team wins.

I watched Utah play and they are a very good team. Alabama is overrated like OSU.

Of course since I am a Michigan fan and hate OSU, I may be a little biased.

Utah is good and Alabama isn’t under-rated, but then I’m an SEC guy and a little biased..but you could tell, early on when Utah went out 21-0, Alabama was shell-shocked..they looked past Utah, while Utah had a point to prove..IMHO..

Since Ole Miss kicked Tech’s butt and Tech whupped Texas then Ole Miss is better than Texas, right? Also, Ole Miss whupped Florida State so they’re better than FS, right? And since Texas stomped Oklahoma and Ole Miss stomped the team that stomped Texas that means they’re better than Oklahoma!!

Ole Miss! National champions! You heard it here first!

Hotty Toddy
Gosh amighty
Who the hell are we?

The only nationally ranked unbeaten team in the nation, UTAH. By default they ought to be NUMBER ONE right now. The games remaining are just that.
