A sanctuary at Johnston Island will no doubt be used, by the greenies, to shut down ICBM testing.

“In the northern Pacific, waters at the northern end of the Northern Mariana Islands, including the Mariana Trench, “

We don’t hear much about the Mariana Islands since Abramoff went to the pokey. He and Grover Norquist were big lobbyists stopping any labor improvements there so they could keep cheap labor/trade agreements, but the goods are labeled made in USA.
So, who profits by getting this protected marine area....wonder if Grover’s environmental group lobbied for it.

This is a good idea, as I see it. The way the orientals are overfishing the oceans, these reserves will become safe havens for reasonable fishing methods and safe breeding grounds.

The one off Hawaii is yielding sustainable catches of fresh fish for the sushi market in America.

We need to begin game management practices on the fish of the world, the last unregulated hunt.

In the Virgin Islands where I’m from they have an island off St. Croix called Buck Island which is a marine sanctuary. One afternoon just off the island next to the reef, tourists from a tour boat were snorkeling the reef and when they came close to the boat, my girlfriend and I threw bread crumbs into the water close to a snorkeler and he was instantly covered with snapper & silver fish as they fed on the bread as if they were piranha. That was back in 1986.
