Videotape surfaces disproving Dem lies on Fannie & Freddie

Democrats embarrassing display of the Clintonesque denial techniques

Who among us has forgotten the sorry spectacle of liberal Democrats including Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, our holier-than-thou leaders of the Congressional House of Representatives and Senate respectively, trying to place the blame for the financial mess and collapse of the two very large Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSE) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, on the Bush Administration and Republicans in general.

This outright embarrassing display of the Clintonesque denial technique when applying the cover-up to a very damaging result of a project gone wrong, with no apparent shame while doing so, was repeated over and over by both of those high ranking office holders along with most of their minions. It was a ham-handed attempt to cover their own sorry posteriors from the mistakes and errors made within their liberal ranks when the walls of the two GSE’s began to crack.

Even after those walls had collapsed and crumbled the litany of blame issued by the liberal Dems showed no sign of easing even when evidence of the unstable beginnings of the process during the ultra-liberal Democrat Carter Administration was uncovered and then further exacerbated by worsening practices during the Clinton Administration were introduced for the public to see. The denial process was in high gear and all liberals were trumpeting the lyrics of the “blame the Republicans” mantra for all to hear.

But there is always one thing that the liberals don’t do very well, and that is to cover all parts of their backsides; they always leave an opening where the ultimate truths eventually escape into the sunlight. And in the case of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, it was in the form a Fox News program which was caught on videotape for all to see.

Don't forget Alan Greenspan.

Of course, many active FR posters follow the lead of Pelosi, Reid and Co. like drugged puppies.

Duh...this has been out for a while. I have two videos about the Dems saying that Fannie & Freddie were doing good back in '03 and there was no need to put any more regulations on them.

Love this quote...

The tape clearly shows President Bush warning of the dangers in April 2001 and again in 2003, upgrading the problem as possibly going beyond housing. Calls by the White House to Congress to create an agency to regulate and supervise the two GSE’s were met with resistance from the House Finance Committee Chairman, Barney Frank, who vehemently denied any problems with the two entities saying there was “no crisis.” The requested legislation for controls was blocked by House Democrats and killed.

Butt boy frank was not chairman in 2001 and 2003, not until 2006. Old story, but some people sure play fast and lose withe the time line.

Notice the date of this Fox News report: Sept. 24, 2008.

This information was there for the taking, and McCain refused to do what he needed to do. Wimp.

Yeah, he was going to “fight” for us. He was going to “name names”.

It is disturbing how all these lying democrat videos disappeared during the election period, and the Republicans refused to counter the liars.

Who can forget Alan Greenspan? But all Fed policies (like interest rates) are "a blunt instrument," and even Greenspan has been warning about fiscal and legislative responsibilities and liabilities of GSEs in particular:

Yes, all this was hiding in plain sight, but this program compiled and brought the players and timeline together in one video.

It was a good comment. We, the puppies, can take it for “the greater good” of the thread :-)

Good catch, coulda been fixed with “current” or his correct title then, “Ranking Minority Member” (?). Sure wish they’d proofread the text, but this should not take away from the substance of the piece or the video.

“But even then, the CYA brigade of the Democrat party allegedly jumped in and threatened a proprietary rights lawsuit if the videotape was run on You Tube.”

Don't bother with org.whodat. He's a longtime apologist for the Democrats in the financial meltdown. Check his posting history.

Notice that he didn't answer one of the salient points of the article:

"The requested legislation for controls was blocked by House Democrats and killed."

His response appeared to be that since the Democrats were in the minority, they couldn't block and kill any legislation.

This position is patently false.

Thank you. I gave the post a benefit of the doubt as pointing out how something minor like this would be the usual way Democrats divert attention from the substance by nitpicking non-relevant details, or even resorting to personal attacks. Liberals have been amazingly successful in trying to pick off a few unsubstantive mistakes or "controversial" issues to claim that the rest of the work (book, article, research etc.) is flawed and thus discredited in its entirety and not worth discussing further, or take discussion away from real issues.

It's also something that conservatives, particularly in the new media, could easily avoid and improve upon, especially now that major media gave up all pretense of being "professional". Practice makes perfect, and forewarned is forearmed. Acknowledging minor mistakes (like spelling etc.) that don't detract from the real issues gets the conversation back on track and only serves to make Dems look petty.

You are absolutely right, time and time again House and Senate Democrats, helped by the media, blocked necessary regulation and oversight or reforms of their favorite government programs and institutions (i.e., their piggy banks), despite demanding exactly that of free market solutions.

Thanks again.
