Washington, Jan 4 : Despite her failed U.S. vice-presidential bid, Sarah Palin has emerged as the top political newcomer of 2008.

The Alaska governor was a significant political figure in her own right before 2008, but in the span of just a few months the former Wasilla mayor exploded onto the national scene to become the first woman nominated for national office by the Republican Party and one of the most controversial political figures in the country.

Caroline Kennedy landed the second spot. The last living child of President John F. Kennedy, the 51-year-old Manhattanite emerged from her famously private lifestyle in late January, writing a New York Times op-ed endorsing Barack Obama for president, reports Politico.com.

A joint endorsement rally with her uncle, Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.), followed a day later, vaulting Caroline into the front lines of the presidential campaign.

****one of the most controversial political figures in the country.****

It's always amusing how conservatives (real conservatives) are often described as "controversial". A term that is rarely used to describe liberals.

“Caroline Kennedy landed the second spot”

The term "newcomer" and Kennedy are mutually exclusive.

There’s that failed bid thing again.

Morons.

K ... this works for me :)

2. Caroline Kennedy

Problem here is that Caroline has very little 'political' experience and is only angling for appointment to a Senate seat simply due to her surname

7. Beau Biden

Gotta be kidding? Political NEWCOMER??? ..... Nuff said.

8. Gov. David Paterson

Maybe on the national stage, but Paterson has been in NY politics almost forever. Hardly some 'newcomer'

Loved this cartoon from Pookie18's entry this morning.

As my seven year old granddaughter would say, "Now that's what I'm talking about!"

From what I recall, she's the mother of five well fed children. No need for pant suits for her.

Here's a funny one of Sarah, from College.

That John McCain does have a good eye for women.

And talk about eyes. WOW!

Despite her failed U.S. vice-presidential bid, Sarah Palin...

Can we just get passed this already? Sarah did NOT fail. John McCain failed, miserably.

2. Caroline Kennedy

8. Gov. David Paterson

Interesting.
She's six spaces ahead of the only guy that can actually make her a political figure in 2009 -- because she wasn't one in 2008.

Time to clean the House...AND the Senate! ;)

Dad came over for dinner tonight; he brought Chinese. He told me he ordered a Sarah Palin Calendar; one for him and one for me.

I can’t wait to get it! :)

She’s only ‘controversial’ because of all the lies trumpeted by the media about Sarah and her family.
