US blocks UNSC action on Gaza Strip

The United States late Saturday blocked approval of a Security Council statement calling for an immediate Israeli-Hamas cease-fire in Gaza and southern Israel and expressing serious concern at the escalation of violence.

US deputy ambassador Alejandro Wolff said the United States saw no prospect of Hamas abiding by last week's council call for an immediate end to the violence. Therefore, he said, a new statement at this time "would not be adhered to and would have no underpinning for success, would not do credit to the council."

France's UN Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert, the current council president, announced that there was no agreement on a statement, though he said there were "strong convergences" among the 15 members to express serious concern about the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the need for "an immediate, permanent and fully respected cease-fire."

the need for "an immediate, permanent and fully respected cease-fire."

Unilateral of course, the muzzies will be allowed to keep firing.

Say what you will: We’re going to miss President Bush, Vice President Cheney and this administration when they’re gone. Does anyone here think that an Obama White House would’ve stood up to the U.N. and for the Israelis? Buehler?

"Strong convergences" often translates to a consensus of a stupid, immoral minority pitted against a more rational, intelligent majority.

Unfettered, I'd have no doubt Obama would disapoint the jewish voters, but he did present himself as being pro-Israel to get elected. BTW, the church that he sat in over 20 years was pro-Pali.

Ok, socialist bailout aside, I give President Bush full applause and credit where credit is due!

Thank you President Bush!

No.

On the other hand, Bush and Rice pushed for the recognition of Palestine as an independent state.

When it comes to dealing with Muslims, Mr. Bush is nearly as blindsighted as the Democrats.

I heard someone on a show in NYC that wanted a protest across from the UN at 11 a.m. today (in the park by the stairs).

It’s well known that Ismamists use cease fires to re-arm. It’s part of their creed. Been doing it since the 7th century. It’s in the book. Who buys this crap?

I hardly believe the timing of this operation is a coincidence. The Israeli's probably felt they had a window of opportunity before Zero is sworn in and took it. However I'm of the opinion that when push comes to shove, the Israelis will do what they believe is essential to the preservation of the Jewish State, the world be damned, as well they should.

I dont think Bush-Cheney have been that strong on defending Israel...especially since Condi Rice has been Sec of State...she has pretty much been Madeline Albright with a tan.

When Israel went into Lebanon a couple of yrs ago the Bush Admin kept putting timelines on Israel...no wonder that mission did not succeed

There is nothing wrong with a Palestinian state. There is something wrong with a Palestinian state whose mission is to destroy Israel.

Why didn't the UN Security Council demand a ceasefire, when HAMAS was launching rockets into Israel.

It's so funny, so many of the institutions of the 20th century are losing all credibility. The UN, the MSM, the Congress, the Federal Government and State governments (ie Illinois and California) and the big 3 car companies and the big 3 networks. Who's next?

The Palestinians consider Israel their own property. They consider it stolen land and they want it back. They view the Israelis as Crusaders. Simple as that. Any actions in the Middle East by Israel or by its alleged “allies” which ignore that are dilusional. Peace with an independent Palestinian State is an impossibility and only an idiot like Clinton or an historical ignoramus like the current incumbent or his looming successor could believe otherwise.

Additonally, the Palestinians are Muslims. Muslims consider it an obligation to retake any territory they consider having been formally Muslim and now controlled by “unbelievers”, hence the additonal interst by Iran and the other lunatic Islamic states in the area. This same philosophy bodes ill for Greece, the Balkans, Italy, Iberia and France.

If the Palestinians want a state, they can go to Jordan. They are basically the same people, but even the Jordanians don’t want these professional homicidal maniacs there.

Unless the west wakes up and acknowledges - and at this point I think most of the west KNOWS it - that western civilization and far eastern civilization are locked in a titanic war with Islam for world control and we are LOSING, its all over.

There already is a Palestinian State.

It is called Jordan.
