Caroline Kennedy Will Be Senator, Officials Tell AP @ 2:12 pm by Walter Alarkon

Caroline Kennedy will be named the successor in the Senate to Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), according to unnamed officials who spoke to the Associated Press.

The AP also spoke to two people close to Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) who said that he is still looking for his choice but that they believe Kennedy will be the pick.

Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy, has been lobbying for the seat since last month. Paterson's choice will serve until 2010, when voters will choose someone to fill the remainder of Clinton's term. It's up for election again in 2012, which is the final year of her term.

Clinton has been nominated to become secretary of State in the Obama administration.

My guess is Obama has been leaning heavily on Gov. Paterson to appoint Caroline. The support of Uncle Ted early on in the campaign was a boost to the Chosen One, and now Obama is repaying the debt to the Kennedy family.

I would not hesitate to say that your "guess" would be a very good estimate of reality.

Unfortunately, “sweet” Caroline was quite coherent when I saw her on TV many years ago claiming that the Second Amendment only applies to “the militia.”

She, of course, was referring to The National Guard.

I wouldn’t vote for her if she were running for dog catcher.

We’ve got to have a Kennedy in the Senate even if she’s only a Kennedy through a marriage to an Onassis. Once Uncle Ted checks out (anticipating the prayer threads here with more posts removed by the admins than the tolerated pious hypocrisies, of the prayers going up and convalescence to the family type), who is it going to be? Of course I know. He's frickin' announced it already. If she gets the seat, he's absolutely running for it in two years. He's definitely not running against Schumer for his seat (which will also be up for re-election in two years).

He hasn't taken a position (that I know of) on any other candidate.
Even Dems in the state say he'd be a fool not to run against her as it would be his best chance to make it.

huh? Her father was John F. Kennedy (at least no one’s ever suggested otherwise, to my knowledge). She is not a Kennedy by “marriage” — she was/is a Kennedy at birth.

The real problem is that she is such a dim-witted, inexperienced, inarticulate embarrassment to US public life.

Hard to believe she’s a Harvard graduate..... oh, wait, it’s not at all hard to believe, she was a “legacy” AND rich AND a Kennedy! They had to admit her and make sure she graduated.
